I have an unidentifiable notification on my home screen.

About three days a new notification appeared on my home screen for my Bold 9650. I usually can scroll on the icon and click it to open whatever notification is there. For some reason I have this gold envelope, (like the ones for new e mail message) but it have a small white circle with what appears to be bluish dots in the circle. ANY IDEAS at to what this is or how to open it. Tried taking out battery and that didn't work.

What apps do you have installed? It doesn't sound like an app world update, that looks like a circle with a downward pointing arrow, if I recall correctly.

As screen shot would be very helpful.

There are several screen capture apps. Two that come to mind are ZonaSnap and CaptureIt, both available from App World.

If your on sprint it's the sprint zone app if you opened it than closed it,it will put that icon on your home screen and in your messages

just do a battery pull, it should go away!
