Home Screen Dialing on OS 6
OK,
so I installed the OS6 for my 9650 (6.0.0.280), and its working good so far. The one thing that bothers me is that I cant dial from home screen...
If I start with entering M, it will take me to messages.
If I start with entering S, it will take me to search
I looked in options, but I couldn't find anything that would enable me to call from home screen, like in OS5
Thanks in advance - 10-14-2010, 04:18 PM #2
Hold the key down longer
Mine's working fine. Assuming you have a contact phone number set up for speed dial on "M", what you need to do is just hold down the "M" key longer than what you're doing now. Keep pushing it until the call screen pops up showing who you're dialing.
Hope that helps!Last edited by RVVillesis; 10-14-2010 at 05:43 PM.

Oh wow mine doesn't do that at all, just tried.... but when I call someone I just know the number and start going and hit green. I am not a fan of forgetting numbers.

You can still call from the home screen.
Type number and hit green button.

You can change it to Dial From Home Screen in the Options menu. Otherwise, just leave the Universal Search enabled, and when you want to dial someone, just start dialing. The search box will show the letters you push, but just under it it will show the numbers. Just dial the numbers like normal (and you can see what you're dialing) and then hit the phone button to call. Best of both worlds -- you can use Universal Search and still dial from home screen.

In homescreen hit Options > Launch by Typing > Universal Search
If you change it to Application Shortcuts it will go back to launching each application if you hit a particular letter (e.g. M for messages, N for BBM, U for calculator)
Hope that helped. - 12-24-2010, 07:09 PM #9
2 ways i've found you can do this. with the universal search, start typing the name, and your contacts will come up in the search. go to the name, and hit the call button, and it will ask which number to call if there are multiple in there. either that, or just hit the call button, and start typing in the name from there

Thing of the past.
In the traditional sense with os5 yes there is dedicated home screen dialing. With os6 there are certain things you can do to "get around" this and set up short cuts like the previous postings say and do a universal search. The easiest thing you can do now with the new os is hit the green dial button>BB button> call from contacts. That is the easiest and fastest way to do it now, but pressing # buttons on the home screen will only bring up the search bar.

I find this a bit annoying also, although OS6 is generally pretty nice. The number size under the search box is very small and the DTMF tones aren't set.
If you hit the green 'hook' button and dial in the top box, you will get slightly larger numbers and hear the DTMF tones. In general I wish we had the option for something closer to the OS5 dial screen, although when new themes become available this may take care of the problem. - 03-06-2011, 12:51 PM #14
WBCOLON hit the nail on the head - you can use the Universal Searc or as I do - just hit the green Phone button and dial as you would from the OS5 "Dial from home screen" method . . .
