Default external hardware for bold?

my field gear i collect data with uses SD CARD, and at the end of the day, i am often on a boat and need to send the data (which often is only a few MB) back to office.

is there anyway i can attach these SD CARDS to my blackberry so as to view, sort, and copy the files, and then send?

remember, i have no wireless access or computer access!

thanks, Foggy

Im no expert but you might try using as sd card that has an adapter for a sd micro included. Then you could just remove the micro and put it in the bb. Not sure the file size limit to send as this is determined by your carrier. If it is broken up in small files they may be able to be attached thru an email.

So you want to take the sd card from the gear and put the data on your berry or use your berry to send it? I think the only thing you can use is a laptop. Putting the card in your phone is out of the question. Tether your berry to a laptop and send the data thru an email. you can copy the sd card contents to a laptop using an adapter like rottonj suggested.

You will definitely need a laptop. Unfortunately the BlackBerry phone cannot read an external SD card through its USB port.

Rather than tethering, you may find it easier to just copy the files from the laptop to the phone either via a USB cable or via bluetooth. Personally I'd use a cable for this

Once you have them on your phone, preferrably on the phone's Media Card, you can easily email them from your phone.

jaydee's method will work fine. It's just a teeny bit more complicated since you have to rely on the tethering acting as the internet connection and maybe pay a tethering supplement to your carrier. The only drawback to my method is the limitation of 2Mb per attachment. Ypu may therefore need to send more than one email.

Good idea! That would be a better way to transfer without incurring extra possible charges.

that is my point: i dont want to open a laptop, turn it on, wait for friggn windowns to load, attach a card reader, copy the files, safely remove the reader, tether, deal, email, deal..and on and on and on!

i think my field gear equipment might have a bluetooth option, which maybe i could connect my bb to the gear. isnt that bb potential with its patent to industry code that allows machines to talk to one antoher?

much thanks

Hmmmm, might be a good reason to ask the IT Dept to order you a PlayBook or for someone to buy you one at the company with petty cash.

Now, as far as a laptop goes; I know that Windoz takes a while to load and so on, but maybe a MacBookAir (they have usb slots, right?) or an iPad with usb or bluetooth capability...not sure if it has either...but I recently got a Mac for work and wow. Does it boot quickly.
