can my bold work on verizon's upcoming 4G network?
can my 3g bold run on verizons upcoming 4g network or would i need to buy a new phone that is 4g compatible?

In short: no. In long: The Bold 9650 was created before the announcement of 4G/LTE by the carriers and unless like the HTC EVO that says it is 4G, we will have to wait until somewhere around summer about phones coming out that are 4G/LTE.

I asked this same question last week with many informative answers:

I love this quote each time I see it in your posts on battery life . . . Funny how users can't wait for a device to finally come out with a form factor as thin as the 9650's ( I know my old Treo was like twice as thick) and the first thing they want to order as an accessory is Seidio's extended life battery "with the bigger cover" . . . so they can go beyond 12-18 hours.
Like you quoted: I too put the 9650 in the charger and go to sleep after 12-18 hrs.

Verizon will keep the 3G network running for a LONG time, no worries if you want to still keep using your 9650s. HOWEVER if you want 4G goodness you will need a new device, which are not even out yet, and the network itself is still only testing. When 4G rolls out soon, it will start with JUST broadband aircard for your laptops and those mifi devices, phones won't come till early 2011.

To the OP: since we are both on Verizon and both have Bold 9650's we realize we will have to buy a new device to utilize the 4G network. Of course we will still be able to use our Bolds for some time to come as pkcable has stated above.
cbreze: I see what's going on here. Drop this line of questioning. Look who posted above him. This is a set up. I'll explain on BBM.

Wasn't there a statement that was released saying 4g would be compatible with a few phones already on sale? Like a backwards computability? Im sure there not talking about 3g because 3g would work for all their phones so there must be more to it.

I live in BFE. I figue 4G won't be in my area for a while anyway. I figure my update will be close to when 4G makes it my area.

Spot on vndlewis, they may announce that its there for us to use but we all know that it will take awhile to workout all the kinks and make it actually better than the 3g we now have. And you are right also that if you are in a remote area (BFE) it will take longer.
I'm near Austin TX and I figure that I'll be up for renewal before they get 4g stable enough for me to be interested in moving up to it.
It's all about planned obselesence (sp) just like always.
