Default bold seems to glitch/run slowly at times

My bold has been working really well for the last 5 or so months that I've had it. I am running 5.0.0.732 on it right now. I have an option to download an OS update on the phone, but since it is not OS6, i figured there was really no point (could be my mistake).

I am running the Foppa14_OS6 theme as well.

My problem is that yesterday I started noticing that when i was typing text messages, the phone would skip characters. It was almost as if it could not keep up with my typing and then it would make an error. The funny thing is that I was not in a rush and i did not feel that my typing was any faster than usual (if anything...i may have been typing a bit slower than i ususally do). This kind of pissed me off because it was annoying...so I did a battery pull 2-3 different times. The phone would seem to work better, but then I would get the same problem. Sometimes the phone would not scroll through the menu either as if it was "hung up" on something. I've seen people talk about memory usage/leaks...but I'm not exactly sure how to monitor that and stop it from happening.

I'm thinking that possibly somehow there are things running that I don't need and/or possibly I have too many messages stored on the phone?

I've experienced similar problems, but the texting issue would stop after about 10-15 minutes. I found that deleting messages (sms, mms, and email) definitely has helped my issue, so give that a try!

yes its possible if you have too many emails/sms/mms still lingering on your ph, it could cause it to run slower and take up memory. After you've gone thru clearing out your old msgs etc., maybe do a batt pull to freshen up there is also a thread around here on how to make the most of managing your memory on your bb that you could look into as well Also, clearing out your browser cache helps too.

EDIT: here is that thread: How To Increase Your Blackberrys File Free Memory

ok thanks, I will try some of those methods for cleaning out some unneeded stuff from my memory. I am also thinking now my new hard gel case may have played a roll in my problems. the case is pretty snug to the phone and my hand placement while typing may have caused me to have the button on the right side of the phone slightly pressed. I'm thinking that could have caused certain letters to be missed while typing...im not 100% sure on this yet.

I do notice that when i restart my phone (battery pull or alt shift del), the phone freezes for like a minute before i can use it after it starts back up. I'm thinking that this is more of the phone starting up though, as it seems to be fine afterwards.

Also...in regards to OS6, does anyone truly know when we will see an official verizon update? One where it will show up on my phone so i can download it and install it the intended way. I used to mess around with leaked versions of PC operating systems and stuff, but I don't really want to risk messing up my phone. I've had more time to mess with computers than my blackberry so I'm still a bit new to what I can actually do on this phone.

I have also put on a new gel case and had some issues with my track pad not responding. It was like more pressure was being placed on my side convenience key. Put my old case back on and everything is fine now. Weird.

As for your phone freezing or lagging for a few mintues after a reboot......that is normal. Your apps are starting back up and it kind of hesitates for a minute or two. My 9650 does the same thing.

You are able to install an official OS 6.0.0.415 now on your phone by bypassing Desktop Manager and using Apploader. I personally NEVER use DM.
you can follow some easy instructions and get OS 6 on your phone if you want to.

If you need help, we can post instructions for you.
As for VZW's official, anyone's guess is as good as another.

Lin, in regards to your phone still 'freezing' after you do a batt pull or alt shift/del, this is normal. After you do a batt pull and your home screen finally pops up you'll notice in the top right of your screen the data arrows are still going indicating your still "coming back online." So my suggestion would be, when you do a batt pull & then see the home screen boot up, let your bb sit for another 5 mins or so to complete its whole booting process that's usually what I do before I pick it back up to use it again.

EDIT: oops! I didn't see Mojaves post replied to this. Sorry!

For your sake, I hope you are not referring to OTA DL and Install. That is a really big No NO for a number of reasons. When the OS that you wish to install is available, download it to your PC, it is a .exe file so double click on it and install it to your machine. Then go to c:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader. If this is not a vzw released OS, fine the vendor.xml file and delete it, then double click on the loader.exe file and sit back, relax and let it do its think. If it is a vzw release then double click on loader.exe then do the relax thingie.

One more suggestion, backup your device with a good backup program like BBSAK. This will backup all of your third-party apps. Also do a backup with DM which will backup all of your data. These two steps are cheap insurance just in case loader has a problem, its happened to me and I was really glad I had those two backups. Loader will backup your device and restore it as part of the load process; however, I find that it is good to restore your data from the DM backup just to be sure.

One other thoght, if the lagging and unresponsiveness continues I would suggest that you wipe and reinstall your OS. Often what happens is that a module in your OS gets klugged up in some way, there is no way to identify what file is fubarred so doing a wipe and reload will get the OS back to a clean state. Actually not a bad idea to do this anytime your devide is acting wierd.
