Bold 9650 - Verizon -> Sprint
I realize this may be a stupid question but I have a Bold 9650 and am EXTREMELY dissatisfied by Verizon to the point I'm ready to switch. I don't want an Android phone nor an iPhone so I really feel like I no longer fit Verizon's targeted customer base.
Anyways, if I were to switch to Sprint would I be able to get my BlackBerry Bold to work? Or if I switched to AT&T or T-Mobile with a sim card would I lose any functionality. I would still want to be able to do voice and data as well as 3G.
Thanks! - 01-17-2011, 01:37 AM #2
Sprint will not port a Verizon Bold onto their network or vice-Versa. Using a SIM card on US networks, the Bold does not have the appropriate 3G frequencies, so that leaves you with a 2G only device. You would need to see if you can do a trade for a Sprint Bold or other phone to have 3G on another network.

ATT loves their BlackBerries as they've felt the pinch of high bandwidth devices. have you noticed how much they are promoting the Torch?

Just very rare to see someone want to leave Big Red for Sprint. If anything it is normally the other way around.

i left verizon for u s cellular because neither verizon nor sprint work near my home. it's a 10 minute drive to an area that sprint and verizon work in. all of the carriers have dead areas. verizon may have better coverage overall but if it doesn't work where you need it then it doesn't matter how well it works somewhere else.

It is no where near the same coverage here in the NE. I have Verizon for personal and Sprint for work and most of my company calls are made on my personal line because the company line could not make a call to save it's life.

if I wasn't on verizon I'd go with sprint. The plans are much cheaper and the coverage is ok where I live. I had sprint before and never had a problem, but phones aren't compatible. You'd have to trade or sell your verizon phone and get a sprint phone.

No, the coverage is nowhere near the same in the Northeast.
So if the OP wants to switch to Sprint, he obviously has promises of better coverage where he lives from Sprint or doesn't care. Or the cost factor levels the coverage factor.
To the OP, choosing a carrier is as personal as choosing a vehicle. Do whatever makes you happiest and whatever makes you feel that you are getting the best. Hope you find someone to switch phones with you so you can join Sprint. Try the marketplace forums.I'll Always Be Ramblin' in Rehab: Where the real Bold addicts are!

I was in the same situation. I sold my Verizon Bold on Craigslist and then purchased a Sprint Bold. Its basically the same device except the Verizon Bolds chrome bezel is more of a dark gray and Sprints bezel is true nickel/silver color. I dont blame you for switching. Verizon is way overpriced and all they care about is shoving that Android crap down your throat.

I don't get it. Just because they sell Androids, how does that equal shoving it down your throat?
Have you called for help with your blackberry and been told to ditch it and buy an Android? How do they not care? Why do you say that? Because OS6 isn't out officially? Who waits for an official OS anyway?I'll Always Be Ramblin' in Rehab: Where the real Bold addicts are!

Also because I heard sprint. Just stepping my foot inside real quick to say that it sounds like Sprint will charge you another extra $10/mo. for smartphones.
