    Default Would you still consider the 9000 to be relevant?

    Hey 9000 users, as the title says would you still consider the 9000 to be a relevant Blackberry?

    I only ask cause I am looking to fill the void my 9930 left by picking up a decent, yet cheap Blackberry...

    And, so far, the 9000 actually seems like the proper one to do so.

    Default Sure Why Not

    Up until a month ago I was still using one. I got mine several years ago when it was the flagship model and it served me well for a long time. I was hoping BB10 would be here before my 9000 stopped working but it's not so I ended up going with an SGS3. That being said, if you can find one in good condition that will last you to January I'd say go for it. I'm still anxiously waiting to see what the BB10 phones are like, and who knows, maybe I end up selling my SGS3 to get one next year.

    I haven't owned one myself but would definately like to have one. I've been keeping an eye on ebay of late for a bargain.

    Some people here are still using older Blackberry's, so I'd say yes, its still relevant.

    @Sancho
    In my case, where my wife is a klutz when it comes to electronics, she managed to drop her Torch 9810 in water and destroying her phone in the process. Since the insurance replacement was quite expensive (it costs a $199 deductible to replace a Torch 9810 on ATT), I held off on replacing her phone while I prepared for the big hit on my phone bill.
    Out of consideration for my wife, I loaned her my Bold 9900 and went back to my trusty Bold 9000 for a while.
    What I found was that I had an even greater respect for this 4 year old device that could STILL bridge to my Playbook, run the excellent BB Traffic (which I used to navigate to my children's summer camp, run my streaming music services, play my local music files, provided excellent call quality, and maintained solid bluetooth connections in my car that always reconnected properly whenever I'd get back into my car-something my spare Android device could not do (its call quality also sucked)-in fact, I tried using the Android device for about an hour and was so annoyed with its operation that I immediately went back to the 9000).
    Here's the catch though: Even though I enjoyed using this solid OS 5 device, I found myself constantly touching the screen by mistake to make selections (like on my 9900). I also found that there were several applications that I had become used to having on my 9900 that I could not use on my 9000 because they just did not fit in the limited available memory. I am also tired of using the clunky trackball. Over time I realized that the Bold 9000 and its awesome keyboard were not quite enough to meet my needs. I had become and OS 7 kind of person! (needing a combination of the keyboard, touch screen/swiping, AND the ample memory that the OS7 devices have to offer). For all of the criticism that Blackberry has gotten from the haters for running the same OS for years, those who really know are aware of the SUPERB job that they have done in stretching the OS to its limits. OS 7/touch is a GREAT implementation of the OS that I am not willing to live without (at least until BB10 arrives). The fact that I am now comfortably enjoying using my wife's replacement Torch 9810 (while I get into the mood to do the respective data/OS swaps to switch back to my awesome 9900) proves this to me.
    I'm sorry for the absence of your 9930. My opinion is that a 9000 will perform as a workhorse, a classic actually, but might leave you craving OS7 again -due to no fault of the device.

    the 9000 is the BBBE, IMO the only thing....You are going to miss the 9930 touchscreen - you will catch yourself pointing at an icon with nothing happening. Other than that, I agree, it would be proper [=

    Relevant? Depends on your definition I suppose. IMO, no it's not. It has limited memory, runs on an old OS, and a weak browser.

    Useful? IMO, absolutely. It's a great phone, great speakers, and a solid KB. I can even bridge it to my PB.

    I use my 9800 day to day but keep my 9000 as my backup phone.

    Personally i think you'll get over the touch screen. i had a bold 9900 but then as a result of a job change ended up getting downgraded to a curve. I missed the touchscreen at first but after about a month i got used to it.

    What i did miss however was the app storage space, nice keyboard, and much better browsing experience of the 9900 over my os6 curve. That eventually led me back to get another 9900. Worth noting it took a little time to get used to using that touchscreen again.

    If you don't browse web pages and don't need many apps installed (and can put up with a trackball) I think you could likely manage well with the 9000 till its upgrade time.

    Alternatively pick up a used 9900. Thats what i did considering it will likely be over a year until the BB10 keyboard version is out and its at a price i can stomach.

    @Everyone

    Seriously, thanks for the replies.

    Honestly, I don't think I will miss the touchscreen. Since I haven't had my 9930 for quite some time, I don't think I will fall back to the old/new ways of touchscreen and touchpad navigation.

    I'm mostly buying it as a backup phone and for the "Blackberry with a kick @$$ keyboard" experience. Lol. From the sounds of things, it looks like exactly what I need.

    Does anybody happen to know if it can be activated on Verizon?

    No. The 9000 is GSM only. It cannot be used on VZW.

    I figured as much, but I was still finding a few on Craigslist and eBay that stated compatibility with Vodafone and Verizon. Thought that was odd...

    I respect your opinion, then again we cannot deny the facts right......only GSM and no VZW, lucky for us we do have several alternatives, been there done that with VZW and I miss them like a bad diarrea....LOL

    Im on a break from my 9780 right now using an old 9000, while I certainly miss some of the new features of my 9780 the 9000 is still a great choice. If your coming from an android/iphone you might feel its outdated.
    Lets go BB10 It's time to nut up or shut up!
    BB10 is going to be legend...wait for it

    Oh the memories of the Bold 9000. I love pulling it out of my desk drawer and feeling that leather battery door! If I could put 7.1 on it, and keep the trackball SQUEEKY clean, I'd use my 9900 for two days, then my 9000 for at LEAST a day and a half. Wish the 9900 had the 9000's "heft" and hand feel. The 9000 feels so solid and sturdy!

    Yes, I believe it is still relevant. I actually just bought a used one even though I already have a 9900 bc I always wanted one. Really the only thing I don't like as well is the browsing, however I would recommend downloading Opera Mini browser as this greatly improves the browsing experience. I don't like Opera on the 9900, as I prefer the native browser, but for the 9000 it gives it a much needed updated browser. I would also recommend installing JSL 8.0 hybrid OS (http://www.jslenterprises.net), as well as a nice OS 7 theme (avail here at crackberry in the theme section). This will make the phone fast and snappy and also give it an updated OS 7 look. If you need a cheap replacement Berry, I'd say it is definitely worth it. Although it has its disadvantages (I.e. Browsing), it definitely has its advantages too (I.e. Awesome quality speaker system + awesome call quality, both of which exceed that of the 9900, as well as the sexy leather back). I don't miss the touch screen AT ALL bc I don't use it AT ALL on my 9900.

    Forgot how awesome the speakers are, and there's the right AND LEFT convenience keys, the external mem card slot. Man, I loved that phone. All I need is a battery . . .

    Vodafone UK and VZW are actually partners. The 9000 would definitely work in UK (and every country in Europe), since CDMA only exists in North America and a few countries in Asia. It is nonexistent in Europe.
