What model BOLD to get 9000 or 9700?
I am at odds my BB Curve 8900 is sort of dead so i have the option of getting either of the Bold's. I was hoping to get some opinions as to what model to get.

I had the same question before getting my bold. The 9000 is nice, but keep in mind it's an older unit hardware wise. Your best bet may be to go with the 9700.

I go with Performance and reliability.
9000 > 9700
Just look at the millions of post about how many users have not made the switch to the 9700 and yes they have tried the phone out. I work in the mobile phone industry and it is common place knowledge that RIM goofed up when they released the 9700.
9700
- Hardware
- Camera
- Trackpad
- (Supposed Batt Life) not proven
9000
- Volume and Clarity
- Screen
- Keypad
- Performace
- Micro SD Location (Way better on the side)
- The Text Does not delete a paragraphs worth like the 9700 does.
By performance I am saying the 9000 has proven it's value when the 9700 has proven it's problems. Keep in mind I am very biased but as I said, I am in the field and have multiple customers come in with there 9700 acting up or not working right.
There's a reason so many have not switched.
I could carry any phone I wanted and I carry the Bold 9000!

I have both - 9000(att) for work and 9700(tmo) for personal use.
I got my 9000 over a year ago (i think) and loved it. I've only had it replaced once (which is a good thing i think within that time period). It is really good looking, works well, great screen, and, well i just liked it a lot.
But, then i got my 9700. The screen is even better, trackpad is awesome (even though it takes some getting used to), and look and feel of it - is incredible. Keep in mind, it is smaller by quite a bit. If i put my 9700 on top of my 9000, it fits within the silver edging of the 9000. So if you like bigger phones, definitely stick with the 9000.
The call quality of my 9700 is great, i haven't had any problems with that at all. And the battery - WOW...it seriously lasts forever, even when i use it constantly all day long. My 9000 battery - not so great (which is partly because of how old it is, i'm sure) After a full days use, it'll probably have one bar left maybe.
If you're a big pic taker with your phone, the 9700 also has a much better camera. I was never impressed by the 9000's camera.
The 9700 is 3.2mp with auto-focus.
The 9000 is 2mp (i think), with no auto-focus, which gives the picture a blurry, not so great looking quality.
If you use flashlight apps, the video camera light on the 9700 is also much much brighter - if that means anything to you haha
The 9700 also has a lot more memory for apps than the 9000. After having OS 5 on my 9000, I was always trying to figure out how to squeeze my apps into the 30-some mb free i had. The 9700 is no problem at all, and i have plenty of memory left. (98 after all my current apps are loaded).
Hope this helps.Last edited by brendonlee; 04-22-2010 at 04:29 PM.

personally i think the 9700 is better! this is totally opinion and hearsay but the bold 9700 is newer - so obviously a step up. also its smaller and quite smart looking. the 9000 (ive had for a year) is quite bulky in comparison although the trackball is arguebly easier to use but not as accurate or reliable as the trackpad. the bold 9700 is very similar in appearance to the curve too which definately looks better. although my friend surprisingly finds the 9000 more appealing lookswise than the curve... while i went for the bold because of wifi she went for it because it was "better looking"?!

I'd chose the 9000. I own both and I prefer my 9000, yes the 9700 is a faster device but I've had the 9000 since release and its never failed me and its more reliable than other any device I've used.

your 9000 is still going? i am surprised and amazed.
every person I know who has had a Blackberry (inc. myself, my 8 family members and several friends) have all had our BB bold 9000's and curve 8900's break at one point and be replaced by our carriers - O2 and Orange. I don't know a single person who has had their BB for longer than 6 months who hasn't had their Bold 9000 replaced or repaired at some point.
in my eyes you are lucky and it gives me hope for every day when i look at my bold and pray that it doesnt crash again when i next press a button!

Having had three 9000's, and currently own a 9700, I must say that while I found the 9000 to be a rock solid device, this 9700 is vastly superior in every aspect.

Once you get past the Bold 9000 screen size, not resolution but size, the Bold 9700
blows it out of the water in every other aspect.

Having both, and using both daily, i think the only thing you're right about is being biased lol.
sound - I do like the 9000's sound better, but it's not louder than the 9700.
screen? how is the bold's screen better than the 9700?
keypad- This is probably the only thing I agree with, the one card that 9000 trumps 9700 on is the keyboard size and style. When you type on the 9000, it just feels right. I go back to the bold 9000 all the time just for the keypad
Performance - I agree the 9000 is a workhorse, reliable and all but theres no way the 9000 out performs the 9700. It's like using windows ME vs windows XP
micro SD location and whatever else you listed- Trivial and totally subjective.
but i agree with you, i like the sd location on the 9000.
The 9700 does in fact last longer than the 9000, i feel like it just holds a charge better, how much better is left to be determined!
if you're gonna get a new phone, might as well get the 9700. - 04-22-2010, 11:01 PM #15
Loving your White Bold i rock the same color. Anyway as far as your post goes im going to have to say your really biased. I see the 9700 everywhere now, in the same places the Bold 9000 used to be a common occurence. People are definitely purchasing the 9700 and it is a better performer then the 9000 in terms of specs, and battery life for sure. I love my 9000 as you do, but i won't deny the obvious facts.

If you have to get a phone right now, I would definitely go with the 9700. The 9000 is certainly much better than the 8900, but it is older and more limited (particularly in memory) than the 9700. The 9000 has been out for almost two years now, which is apparently 80 in human years. So the 9700 is only pushing 40.
Your best bet, though, would be to wait to see what RIM has up its sleeve at WES next week for release this summer.BB 950,BB 6280,BB 7290,BB 8800,BB 9000,BB 9800,BB 9810, Samsung Galaxy Note II (yes, mine is bigger than yours)

Wrong again. The 8900 is smaller than either the 9000 or the 9700. The 8900 has more screen resolution and a better camera than the 9000. It also has twice the RAM. The 8900 is similar to a 9700 without 3G. Both the 8900 and the 9700 are significant upgrades to a 9000.

The lesson we learned from iPhone: People who can't walk and chew gum at the same time don't need a phone that can multitask...nobody likes a phone to be smarter than they are
Go RIM, Go BlackBerry. BlackBerry rules!

My first BB device was a Bold 9000 and I loved it..
When first Bold 9700 pics showed up on the interweb™, I was sceptical.. But I sure had to try it out.. It was good, I had it for two months. Then for some reason I went back to Bold 9000.
I sold my Bold 9700 right away,.. I started to love and appreciate the 9000 so much more. Mainly cause of the keyboard, screen and of course that super clear & loud speakers..
I'm don't have much applications installed on my 9000 so ram is not an issue for me. Camera also doesn't bother me since I almost never use it.
Also one thing to keep in mind (at least where I live..).. I can get a brand new Bold 9000 for 1/3 the price of 9700. So I guess there's not much debate (in my case) which comes out on top. - 04-23-2010, 09:06 AM #21
I have had my Bold 9000 for a 1 year and 5 months now. Just trackball replacements due to my hands sweating. It has been used constantly from the day I bought it right up to me writing this. Its a great phone and when it comes time for replacing it I hope the next one works just as well as this one.

Hey Guys this may be a newbie question, but when you look at the specs on the side by side comparsion posted earlier, it shows the 9000 to have 1GB of onboard memory with 128 mb expandable memory, when you look at the 9700 it shows 256mb od onbaord memory and 256 expandable memory, is this a typo? Because I believe that would mean the 9000 has more memory, please correct me if I'm wrong?

Agree 100%, the 8900 is garbage compared to the 9000.
After 3 months now owning both the 9700 and 9000, I can honestly say I should have saved my $350.00 and stuck with just my 9000 and a set of 6 spare trackballs. I'm typing from my 9k right now and unless a large device pops out of RIM's buttocks soon, I won't be sticking with them.
