**** Backup the device before upgrading the OS ****
1. Download and Install the preferred os on pc (Remove all other BB OS's from pc)
2. Delete vendor.xml file (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader)
3. Connect bold to pc
4. Double Click "Loader.exe". This will initiate the os loading process.
Note: The "loader.exe" file can be found at the same location as the "vendor.xml" file
Hope this helps ... Welcome to CB forums

Which os are you trying to install? Is it for Bold 9000? You could remove the os from pc and re-install it and try loading on the device...

Installing an OS means finding one you want dling it and installing it on your computer as you would any other program
Deleting the vendor xml is for an OS not put out by your specific carrier
J_L Cmder and BBSAK are programs used for bricking/deleting or fixing OS's
Below is my process........................
Delete prior OS from computer
Install desired OS version onto computer (remove vendor XML if applicable)
Wipe/brick my BB using J_L Cmder (I like using this program others like BBSAK)
After white screen of death (507 error) on BB
DISCONNECT COMPUTER FROM THE INTERNET COMPLETELY
Open DM 4.6 (my preference) go to app loader > add/remove apps
Do a clean install of chosen OS (run down the component list and add what extras you may want)
Do a fresh reinstall of all 3rd party apps (the most tedious part of the process for me)
Battery pull after everything is done
No I do not back up my device. All phone numbers I save as a copy on my SIM and just auto reload after upgrade. If you paid for your 3rd party apps, print your emails or record the serial keys somewhere, so when you go to reinstall apps you don't go nuts searching for them....I ALPHA tested your... - 12-11-2009, 05:36 PM #9
Couple quick questions. I've done upgrades in the past but never performed a wipe.
1. if I use BBSAK, is the basic idea that I can backup my applications, then wipe, then restore them ? Will this work if I go from vers 4.x to 5.x then perform a restore ?
2. I am on corporate BES. Does the BES server have to be running 5.x if i want to upgrade my 9000 from 4.x to 5.x ?
thanks,
