| | Trouble mounting Bold on my computer via USB.
I just got my BlackBerry Bold today and I absolutely LOOOOVE IT.
However I am having one problem that is REALLY starting to get on my nerves, when I plug my Bold into my computer via USB to accsses my microSD card nothing happens at all. It wont launch the little Pop-Up asking what I would like to do, it wont show up under my computer, all it does is charge the battery, and my computer makes that little noise it makes when you plug in a USB device. So I know that neither of the ports on my computer, or the port on my Bold are broken.
All of my other USB devices work just fine, except for my Bold.
Help? |

u need to go into 'options' -> 'memory' and choose the options to enable 'media card support' and some others from that page

I had the exact same problem. In addition, neither ATT Communications Manager nor Audible Books Manager could see my bold as a device, even though it showed as a device under USB in device driver and both of the RIM virtual ports showed up under ports in device driver. I was, however, able to set up the bold as tethering modem using DUN.
I spent well over 10 hours with ATT and BB tech support, and ended up getting 2 replacement phones from ATT (each of the first two being declared "defective" by BB tech after several hours of trying to resolve the problem.)
Then I found the nature of the problem and its solution on pinstack. Turns out that somewhere in the refurbishing process or perhaps before the phones are returned to BB for refurbishing, the mass data storage featured is turned off "internally" - meaning you can set it to "on" or "prompt" in options but it ain't gonna work.
However, a great person has posted a link to a download that fixes the problem. Just search for this exact phrase in google and you'll find it:
"Some people are have issues with Mass storage "
Yes, it is "are have" - that is not a typo.
After applying the patch my usb mass storage feature worked perfectly, and ATT Communications Manager and Audible Books Manager also worked.
I spent a lot of my time trying to resolve this problem and was a bit upset that ATT and BB tech didn't know of the solution or didn't tell me of the solution for some reason.
So I called back and confronted both of them, asking to speak with supervisors until I got to third level management supervisors. Here is what I was told by phone and email:
1. ATT and all other carriers use RIM to refurbish returned phones. The carriers then warehouse the refurbished phones, stick their own "certified refurbished equipment" on the boxes, and distribute the phones. But the carriers have no quality control check on the phones, they are depending on RIM.
2. The refurbishing process turns off the mass data storage feature (if you believe ATT), or the mass data storage feature does not work because ATT has not properly "unlocked" (yes, the RIM email said "unlocked") the phone before distribution to the consumer (if you believe RIM). Or the phones get to RIM with the mass data storage featured turned of by the IT policy of the company that is returning the phones to RIM 9if you believe a poster at the ATT forums.)
3. In any case, the consumer gets a refurbished bold with the mass data storage feature turned off.
4. The patch program linked in the pinstack forum is an authentic RIM program that does what the post in the forum says it will do. RIM, however, does not support use of that program because it is an internal program to be used only by their technicians as it is very extensive and could mess up your phone if you enter incorrect command lines (the program at pinstack comes with a bat file to invoke the proper command line options to fix the mass data storage program.)
5. Neither RIM nor ATT will take responsibility for the problem. ATT said they were going to try to get the problem solved because it appears to be preventing consumers from using the ATT Communications Manager (but I was left with the impression that if it were not for the ATT CM issue, they would simply say let the consumer be damn.)
Bottom line: check all the settings in the preceding post. If that doesn't fix the problem, then call your carrier's tech support and have them do their dance until they transfer you to BB tech support, who will go through their dance. If the problem is still unresolved then try the pinstack fix. It worked fine on my Bold.

It runs over and over for some reason, but you only have to let it run through the routine once.

The instructions on pinstack say that after you run the bat file it should reset the BB but mine doesnt do anything and it still does not read the mass storage. Currently I can drop songs onto my card. but I want to start dropping movies without opening the DM.

I think I had to:
1. set the mass stoprage options to auto;
2. then do a "hard" reset (pulling the battery)
to get it to work after applying the patch.

First here is the link to the post on pinstack.com that everyone is talking about : http://forums.pinstack.com/f8/mass_s...the_fix-96938/
--My Issue--
I purchased a refurbished bold from ATT. When I plugged it into the computer it would charge but it would not show up as a USB drive. I confirmed that all the USB setting were correct in settings->memory
--Solution--
I went to the post at pinstack and downloaded the file and ran it. It worked perfectly. NOTES: I had to run it from the command prompt, running it by double clicking the bat file in windows didn't work properly for some reason. Also you need the Blackberry Device Manager loaded and running and your blackberry must be plugged in.
--Comments--
This loads some ram image onto the Blackberry and then causes it to reboot. It is a little sketchy doing a "firmware" update with only guidance from a community forum, but it worked perfectly for me and it appears to be working for others too.

Well, I had the same problem (Refub Bold 9000). Downloaded the RAR file form the Pinstack link, extracted it and ran by double clicking the file.
Did not have to run from a command line.
Did not need desktop manager open.
After the program ran through it's cycle once, the BB rebooted.
I Closed the command promt window.
Device reboted and now I see both the internal 1GB and the 8GB sd card as drives in XP.
