Default Strange findings! My Bold 3G signal is 90% but HTC, Novatel Merlin, only 20-40%?

The past few days I have been using only 2G with my BOLD with assumption that 3G in BOLD is still unreliable based on this forum. But today I found out surprisingly that my 3G signal in BOLD is Full, where my other HTC phone and Novatel Merlin HSDPA modem only have 20-40% signal strength which is less than half.

Does Bold actually has an excellent 3G antenna therefore getting a much better reception compared to other phones?

Does Bold actually use different network for3G compared to other regular 3G phones?

Or my BOLD signal strength indicator is being inaccurate completely showing false information?

    Any ideas?

I don't dare turn 3G off - I get far inferior 2G signal where I live and (depending on the room I'm in) usually get near enough full 3G signal.

But I guess what bod says, it's got a decent antenna in it and therefore can get a better signal.

i get mixed reception between my HTC TyTN II and my bold.

some areas my bold gets better reception and some areas my TyTN II gets better reception, but overall the Bold seems to have better reception.

    Default BOLD signal strength

Well, for sure the BOLD is an awesome machine.

With good reception on 3G, it really does drain quite a bit of the battery though. Balance i guess...

I've compared three 3G phones: HTC, Motorola, iPhone and Bold in the same place at the same time and the Bold had the highest signal. I don't know whether that means anything since they all sounded fine. The best test would be to take some phones driving and stop when one loses the signal and can't make a call, drive until the next one quits, and so on. Also most phones have an engineer mode in which you can see the actual gain rather than a graphical representation, which can be manipulated.

I was thinking that it was a better 3g signal at first, but I honestly am starting to believe it is just a false 3g strength. I have never seen less than 4 bars of 3g, but on all my other 3g devices, I've seen 2-3. Only time I don't see 4-5 bars of 3g is when my device is on EDGE.
