Sleep button stopped working

I'm on os 5.0.0.314 and my sleep button just stopped working. Not sure if the mute function stopped working as well but this sux. Anyone else experience this? I'm ready for an upgrade mid Jan 2010.

Mine has stopped working for a couple months now which is a pain because when i slip it in the case i always trigger the " voice dialing: say a command" prompt...
is there an internal set up or off mode i may have triggered?

By "sleep" button I mean the left hand side power button which shuts down the screen and so on
