Silver Wire on the Keyboard Broke!
OMG!
I woke up today and realized the little Silver Wire in between the Keys on the bottom row snapped!
Ahhhhhh!
How can that happen?
I'm really Careful with my BB!

It happened to me three weeks into ownership. For me, it was where it clips under the Alt key. I am pretty sure it was just a manufacturer defect because of how cleanly it broke (almost like it sheared right off the mounting clips). This is even having an OEM skin and the OEM hoslter used at the same time!
I would actually have preferred if they didn't have the strips there. It sure looks nice, but it's a chance that those bits can fall off or break.Be Bold. Stay Focused 24-7.

And yes, its a very clean cut..."The Philosopher has never killed any Priests, whereas the Priest has killed a great many Philosophers."

Hope you didn't get my old one :P
From what I gather, that strip is held on in three places. There's some give in the design, but if you had the same problem I did, it might be a flawed batch of keyboards?Be Bold. Stay Focused 24-7.

I never took any
As soon as I noticed it, I called my carrier and was instructed to go into my dealer ASAP. I was nearing the 30 day warranty period where it'd be a straight exchange for a new one, so I rushed to get a new one.
If you look up close between the bottom of that wire/strip and where it hits the black bezel, you can see a very small "tab" about a mm from the edge of the silver bezel that goes from that wire/strip beneath the black bezel. Mine sheared in a way where that tab broke, and it was sticking up as far as the top of the ALT key.Be Bold. Stay Focused 24-7.

There is no way I can install that... It's supposed to be like totally complicated to do.
Something about the Keyboard falling apart and stuff-
I'm not talented enough with a screwdriver to pull off such a stunt unfortunately.
I bought the black bezel, and the bottom faceplate, and all I could manage was swapping the bottom logo faceplate.
Sad day for sure

Guess what my Bold got me for Christmas???
Now the second row directly above my ALT key is snapped in the Same exact spot as the first wire snap.
Is this just me?
Or is there like a stress point under the hood that causes it to snap there?
I'm at a loss of words.
My Bold has become unpresentable- like a broken down 1982 pinto or something.
I'm thinking of just buying another Bold this weekend.
I'm sad.
I think I'm going to drink myself into oblivion to help me coop with my grief.

Hate to hear your misfortune. Have you made an argument to the warranty people yet to see if they will exchange. Unless you are driving nails with your Bold this does not sound normal. Just a thought...

Out of curiosity, when you aren't using the phone, is it being holstered? Do you have a case for it? How about a skin? When it is holstered, do you have it holstered when you sit down (say driving the car, sitting in an office chair)?
I'm trying to rule out whether you (or me when mine went) did something that created stress points...Be Bold. Stay Focused 24-7.

No Holsters- Just Silicon Skins
My BlackBerry Hangs out in my Car Door Handle While I am driving, I don't Know if that's what you wanted to know..."The Philosopher has never killed any Priests, whereas the Priest has killed a great many Philosophers."

I think everyone should be careful when typing on their keyboard. I feel the alt key is a highly used key and that is why the silver wire broke in that are due to so much traffic/usage.

This problem should be covered under the RIM one year warranty.
Return to your vendor for exchange/repair from RIM.

I think I'm Stuck-
I bought the Bold Before it was available through ATT- I got it on eBay.
It's an unlocked Rogers Bold.
ATT and Rogers Won't Even Bother With it.

Will RIM?"The Philosopher has never killed any Priests, whereas the Priest has killed a great many Philosophers."
-Denis Diderot - 01-03-2009, 08:14 AM #22
I think you are stuck.
The easy way to find out if RIM would fix it is go on their website:
The last part is in bold (no pun intended) on their website. The only recourse I can see is you finding the person/company that sold it to you on eBay (if you can still find them). AT&T won't touch it because you didn't buy it directly from them. Rogers isn't touching it because you are not their customer and you didn't buy it directly from them. You might be forced to get the parts yourself and attempt to fix it yourself, or just get a new Bold. The service programs outlined...are available only for the following BlackBerry® smartphones, which can be purchased directly from Research In Motion (RIM):
BlackBerry® 8820 smartphone
BlackBerry® Curve™ 8320 smartphone
BlackBerry® Pearl™ 8120 smartphone
If you did not purchase your BlackBerry smartphone directly from RIM, please contact your carrier or reseller for return and repair service.Be Bold. Stay Focused 24-7.

Prada - you have got to get a new keyboard! And get help with swapping it if needed. I would never swap mine out myself - or the bezel or anything - because I am clumsy and lack confidence. But someone will do it for you - someone here maybe or in a phone store.

I know!
I just need to think about it all.
I may just stick it out with my Bold, and Just get the 8900 in a month.
