Should I try the 5.0 OS?
Yes, I know I should post this in the beta OS, but nobody is really on.
If I don't need stability, should I try 5.0? Is it worth it? - 05-19-2009, 02:31 PM #2
if you dont need stability, then try away, the worse that can happen is that you end up going back to a lower version.

There is zero difference in using an official release vs a beta release - identical software. Except with beta you don't have to wait months to get old beta software that has just been renamed "official".
Backup, then give it a whirl.
One really cool thing in OS 5 is much much improved picture quality! - 05-19-2009, 02:33 PM #4

i'm not arguing or anything, but they would have to do something to it to make it att. if not we'd never have to delete specific vendor xml files. no?

Improved picture quality? How did that happen? How's the battery with it?

Improved code - and they're doing the same thing on the new iPhone (Apple’s iPhone OS 3.0 will make your iPhone 3G’s camera better!)
Think of it as getting more out of what you already got

I read to much people having bugginess on the 5.0 beta OS, so i stayed away from it.

and theres the problem. in your earlier post where you stated there was zero difference between a beta and official release, that obviously assumes the official release is the same version as the beta youre using.
ie: if you held onto the first 5.0 beta theres no doubt quite a few differences between it (which will never be official) and the latest beta.
saying theres no difference between the beta and official release only holds true if the beta version you have is one day released as an official version. - 05-19-2009, 06:11 PM

I got all excited and jumped on 5.0 as soon as it was available...against my better judgment. I wound up nuking my Bold to the point where I had to force-load another OS build into it just to bring it to life...after four tries!!!

I have been using .266 for weeks now, with virtually no glitches to speak of (aside from the occasional white screen when pulling from the holster...when there is a new email available), and I'm pretty happy.
But...I am patiently waiting for the "official" 5.0 build. I won't load this alpha-beta OS onto my phone again and take a chance on having problems...

. The OS' that get tagged official don't have new or different functionality compared to the beta version is maybe a better way of stating.
