If you have plazmic, you can find the plain folder icon in one of the theme folders. You would only need to go in and clean up the middle portions of those icons and layer them over the plain folder icon. Still a fair amount of work.

Abu, in your first post, you wrote: "Next, unzip the attached file". I can see the image of the folder icons, but not the zip file. I may be stupid, but please help me!
    Thx,
    Arnie

Sorry I only had.jpgs to work with. If someone can uploads the stock email indicator icons as clean 80x80 .png, I can fix

Ok, not to be a quitter but I'm actually on to an Android phone now (and loving it btw). So, my "givesacrap" level on this is lower than previously.
Having said that, I found the stock .png files. I put them together so all you have to do if you want to change the icon is drop the image in the circle part of the bottom of the envelope. If you have moderate Photoshop ability you should be able to figure it out.

The FileScout icon install does not work in OS 5.0
They say its because of certain directories being "read only"
If anybody knows of any workarounds, it would be really helpful
I can't take being stuck with these boring folder icons anymore
    Thanx in advance

Does anyone know if this technique will work on a Storm 2? I don't have a folder "system/samples/folder icons".

    Thanks,

    Alan

Doubtful. But the Storm 2 has OS5 and custom folder icons are part of OS5 and Theme Studio so there really isn't a need.

Ok so this won't work for 8520 on 5.0 os either right? I followed the instructions and in Filescout I can see the icon files in the right folder and directory, but when I go to add a folder, still the same boring defaults. Am I doing something wrong or is it just not an option?

    With the source files: yes.
If the theme was made with Theme Studio for OS5, it should already have icons selected for the main folders along with several other new items.

If you a them built for OS4.6, then you are out of luck.

Default No Folder icons directory in Samples

I have unziped the attached file, and copyed all of the icons to my sd card, in a folder called icons. using FileScout, I have copied a folder icon/file on the vClipboard". Then I have tried to "Move folderXXXX.png to "system/samples/folder icons" on my bb internal memory but the samples folder is hidden and I can not unhide it (althought I see it grayed out and can open it). When I use the details menu I can uncheck hidden but I can not save. There is no folder icons directory in the samples folder and when I try to create one is does not save. Bottom line I have no place to move the attached file folders. HOW DO I CREATE A FOLDERS ICONS DIRECTORY IN SAMPLE DIRECTORY?
