Share Your Custom Folder Icons Here...
Hi all. If you're like me, you make use of Folders on your BB to organize your apps. And if you're like me you're getting sick and tired of the Colored Stars, old Smiley Face and Heart. So, this weekend I had a few minutes to create some custom folder icons to use with the Standard AT&T Bold Theme, and any other theme that's similar.
If you don't know how to add a custom folder, first, download and install the app FileScout.
FileScout for BlackBerry® Download [File Manager for BlackBerry® Devices]
It is Donationware, so throw the developers a few bucks if you get a chance.
Next, unzip the attached file, and copy any or all of the icons you like to your sd card, someplace you can find easily. Finally, using FileScout, for each folder icon/file individually, "Put 'FolderXXX.png' on the vClipboard". Then, "Move folderXXXX.png to "system/samples/folder icons" on your bb internal memory. Again, this is with FileScout.

On your bb desktop screen click Menu/Add Folder and see your new folder options.
I took some of the standard AT&T theme folders that I like and redid them so as to be able to use them with other 3rd party themes, as well.
I'll probably create a few more over time but let me know what you think of these. Enjoy!Last edited by abu4321; 09-21-2009 at 04:14 PM.

Thanks man, those are great! This is one thing I always wished we had more options on. The applications, games, settings, and IM folders all look great, but the custom folder templates are boring. I would love to see what other people are doing..
I had two bowls for breakfast. One was cereal. - 09-22-2009, 04:15 AM #4

That's kind of vague. Where exactly are you stuck?
From your bb browser, try this link http://www.emacberry.com/_data/bbfs002/FileScout.jad - 09-22-2009, 04:10 PM #10
Sorry...more info for you.
I have copied it to my BB(hopefully in the right place) and I have tried to download it but it fails. The details button when clicked says "907 Invalid COD File not found".
Maybe I haven't copied it to the right placed? - 09-22-2009, 04:18 PM #11

Thanks everyone I just went OTA and it worked.
Another question though...when you guys download the theme Apps, how do you get all your other apps to appear? Mine disappered from a folder I had created.
Or is it because they were in a folder I created and not in the theme? - 09-22-2009, 04:30 PM

I'm new to blackberry, and I need some help. When I try to copy the .png to the folder icon folder I get an error message:
"net.rim.device.api.i.o.file.FileOException[File not found]
Anyone know what it might be? I have the blackberry tour Verizon.
Thanks. - 09-30-2009, 05:17 PM #19
This doesn't work for the Tour. It works only on the Bold to date.

Right now I am trying to work with RIM Development stuff. As soon as I can get time I will make an attempt at the icons myself and post back to you any I create.
Thanks a bunch!

Email Icons
Here's something a little different. This started off as a way to change the horrendous Yahoo icon that gets pushed down when you add an att.net email address to BIS. Not the att.blackberry.net but the second email address you can get from att, or email address you get if you have their DSL service. Then, I started playing with GMail logos. At that point, I just figured I better do all the major free email providers, plus the carrier.blackberry.net email address. Even threw in a special CrackBerry Edition.
While I'm no graphic artist, I think the results are definitely passable.
Everything in this thread, folder icons and email icons for individual accounts, I learned from this site...
How to Customize Blackberry Email and Folder Icons | iCrack
so thanks to the author.
This is a cut and paste from his site on how to change the icon. Again, this is to chance the icon for each indidual email account you have set up on BIS, not the combined folder icon. This works perfectly well on 5.0.238 BTW.
Customize Email Icons
1. Determine your email’s UID in Options > Advanced Options > Service Book > Select the email you’d like to customize > Note the email’s UID
Cutomize email and folder 3 2. Go into BBFileScout > SDCard> BlackBerry > Directory where you save the icon > Highlight an icon > Press BB menu > Select Store ‘icon.png’ on stack
Cutomize email and folder 6 3. Go back to BBFileScout first screen and go into Store > Appdata > RIM > BDA > Icons > Create a directory and name it under your email’s UID > Copy the ‘icon.png’ into the directory > rename the icon to: 1-80-80 (Bold & Jave) 1-58-43 or 1-48-36 (83xx) 1-73-73 (Storm) -If you can’t find BDA and Icons directory, just create one
Cutomize email and folder 1 4. Reboot your device for the changes to take effect.. Good Luck and if you like what we’re doing, and want us to keep doing it, please kindly consider making a donation, no matter how small, towards its increasing annual hosting and running costs. Many thanks for your kind and generous support. - 10-01-2009, 03:07 PM

look to see what folderXXX are there and increment up by one.

I'm using these and they look great in a standard theme. Only problem I have is if I use a different theme that uses a lighter highlight (for instance, a Storm theme which has the blue highlight) they look like crap. I tried opening the icons in Photoshop to see if I could clean them up but they don't open as transparent, just an all black background. Is there another program I should be using to edit them?
