Also, if you're lacking icons on the home screen, have a look for the "L" Theme..

This site also has a very nice varity of L themes, animatied, non animated, today, not today ect.

Yes, L theme has always been most convenient for me too. Allows me to have access to my most used apps without having to scroll and search.

My last two devices were WM machines. When I switched to BB it took me a while to find themes that I really liked. In fairness, the same was true for WM

My recommended killer app is WorldMate live. I had it on my WM device as well. This is a must have for any road warrior.

2. Gmail IMAP remains glitchy (at least on the BB) - the 'no password trick' should eventually settle into having your inbox reflect your BB in terms of marked as read and deleting e-mails, but I still find that e-mails don't always get pushed through (either it comes late or occasionally, it doesn't come at all).

4. Options >> Screen/Keyboard

5. Also holding alt + the return key will bring up the app switcher.

9. The 'Manage Connections' icon should do just that.

Cheers.

Dieter, I gotta say man, props on your review of the initial impressions of the Blackberry Bold on your website, I found it entertaining, and thought you had many nice things to say (which I didn't expect). Overall, great review and I look forward to the indepth one! Good luck w/it.

Part of that is I'm just more experienced with WM, but I really do think the platform can be a bit more flexible. Of course, the downside is that with certain WM devices you pretty much HAVE to do that adaptation work in order to make the phone act the way you like, where BBs have a universal 'default' that's more user-friendly that the many different implementations of WM.
Here's a pointer to how intuitive Bold can be. I have a friend here who doesn't claim to be particularly gadget-technical (I get to fix his computer setups). As soon as he saw my Bold and the instant push email he had one on order, his first ever smartphone. He got most of it working without any help the day it arrived and I guided him through email and BBM next morning. He could have done it all himself but it's easier to test BBM with two devices and email is so much easier with the correct passwords.

I suspect the issues of user friendliness and instinctive working are less for a smartphone newbie without conditioning imprinted by other phones. This might even apply for users making generation jumps within a smartphone family.

On the intuitive note, my wife just picked her pearl back up and we put a data plan on it. I had it all set up and working(email, BBM, Google Calendar sync) within 20 minutes.

One best things about the round robin, is not just the reviews themsleves, but the posts like these were you hear all kinds of info from people that might not otherwise chime in.

Can you customize the Home screen (or whatever it's called) so that you can show more upcoming appointments?

Hoime screen is setup by the Theme. Plenty of different themes available for download, or roll your own. The one you probably want is a variant on 'Today'

Agreed, I've picked up a few things myself which is always nice.

TIP: To change the "bars" display of your reception to a number, on the home screen hold ALT down and press N M L L

Repeat to turn it off. (:

also ALT + right shift + H to dispaly "Help Me!"

Dieter,

to be honest, after seeing some of the storm reviews, it looks like not having wifi is a sticky wicket, as well as most saying the device isn't quite ready yet.
