Rogers (AT&T carrier) SIM CARD Barred/Sim Toolkit Error
I just unlocked my phone and inserted my sim card inside this new phone and I can't make any calls. My old phone was a Blackberry Flip..
Does anyone know whats going on?? ppl said to update the OS or update it via the blackberry updater, but wouldn't that mess up my phone?
How can I make my BB work??Last edited by GTRIGGA; 01-08-2010 at 10:30 PM.

Your answer was given in this thread. You need to take the 9000 to a local shop that does unlocking and have it cable unlocked. There is no software that you can use to do this on your own.

My phone is unlocked, but I can't make any outgoing calls or messages.. I can only receive calls..
When I try to call it gives me a SIM CARD Barred/Sim Toolkit Error..
Does anyone know whats this means?? I talked to Rogers and they said I got the latest version of the SIM card for my cell so I don't think its that - 01-08-2010, 10:52 PM #5
your phone is unlocked, through code, yes, which also basically means that it could be "incompletely unlocked", that's why you're getting an error when you call out, and that's why lak611 suggested for a cable unlock where u physically go into a shop and they'll take your phone and manually unlock it with their gadgets.
in the mean time, what you can do to make phone calls is to either set your network mode (manage connections > mobile network options) to "2G only" and not "2G and 3G", hopefully you're ok without 3G for now. OR, you could purchase an older sim card at selected wireless stores. Rogers would probably still have a few left, but only a few stores carry them now.

it could be a PUK code and I would just get a new sim card. They may have blocked your sim cards imsi

Hi, I've been having the same problem with my blackberry from at&t. I am now with Fido. here's what worked for me.
when I was using 4.6 I've set the country code to unknown and disabled the 3g so that only edge was on. As long as the 3g was off I could make outgoing phone calls.
Now I've upgraded to 5.0 and it just seems to work anyway.
the sim idea didn't work for me. I got a brand new sim card from fido but it didn't help. - 01-11-2010, 02:00 PM #9"You shouldn't have to sacrifice who you are just because somebody else has a problem with it" -Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City

I got the problem resloved by getting different OS. I dont know which one exactly, casue I went out to a phone place to get it done. but I have all my functions like 3g etc.
Apparently its a normal prob for unlcoked AT&T phones.
Btw, how can i find out what OS im running now?Last edited by GTRIGGA; 01-14-2010 at 02:00 AM.

WOW!
I just got my phone today, AT&T and i am on Fido with the same issue. I called and received the unlock code form at&t when i called them, although not sure on the PIN [will figure out tomorrow] since the lady on the other line had no idea what a PIN on a BB was...
It doesn't work on 3G but in 2G it calls no problems, just well its EDGE and not 3G like i wanted.
Anyways, i already made the mistake of buying a spare sim just in case [newest one, is what my research indicated to get as mine is 'older' at about 1.5 years]
I will do the 5.0 update tomorrow and report back. Nice to see i stumbled on this thread prior to making another one of 238524523 on this forum!

Hi guys,
So I've seen a lot of people having this problem. Had an AT&T unlocked phone and trying to access a "Fido" SIM card from Canada.
Follow the steps below to get it working. If you have any specific questions, message me. Make sure your phone is UNLOCKED. To check if it is unlocked, go to:
- Options > Advanced Options > SIM Card
- Just press the letters "MEPD" (no quotation marks).
- All the options should say "Disabled"...ALL OF THEM!
As you can see this post was put up at 2.30am Eastern Time (Canada) and I just figured out the solution. So just follow them, and you'll be golden:
- Go to Blackberry dot com. Select North America as the region.
- Click on "Support" on the top.
- On the left side, click on "Downloads"
- Under the "Smartphone Software" section on the page, click on "Access your service provider download site"
- Next, scroll down to North America, and click on "Rogers Wireless Inc".
- On the "Rogers" page, select your device, in this case the "9700" and click next.
- Download the first file listed: "BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1446 (Multilanguage)".
- Fill out all your information and save the file.
- When it is finished downloading, double click on the file and install.
- When it's done it will ask if you want to start the blackberry desktop software ... DON'T.
- Once it's installed go to 'My Computer--> C: --> Program files --> Common Files --> Research In Motion --> Apploader
- In this folder, there is a file called "vendor.xml", ***Delete this file***
- In this folder as well is an program called "loader.exe"
- Run this program and go through the instructions (I recommend choosing the option to backup your settings/emails etc).
- Takes about a half hour.
- When it's done, unplug your phone and you should be golden.
- Try making a phone call and it should work.
**No more "switch your network to 2G" or "delete the +1 country code". None of that. Follow the steps as mentioned above and it SHOULD work. If not, then PM me!! Don't hesitate. I will try to help you out.
Thanks!
