Replace Bold with 8900. Good or bad idea?
Been having problems with the Bold for a while now.
Ever since the update I havent had my 3G on as much since the 3G likes to drop alot of calls where I live.
So im just wondering if replacing the bold w/ the 8900 is a good idea or not? Thanks!!!Last edited by bryan_c; 10-15-2009 at 01:06 AM.

Serious question????
.I have done research over and over
Where?
How is it 'messing up'?I have been using a Blackberry Bold since June and I love it... But ATT has just sent me the 6th Blackberry Bold since mine keeps messing up.
To me it sounds like it doesn't matter what phone you have. If you went through 6 Bold's and you still have problems, I think it's user error. Now it is messing up again and Im wondering if i should get the Curve 8900. - 10-15-2009, 12:42 AM #3
It is user error, at this point RIM has had more than enough time to correct any flaws in the device, its not like it was released 1 week ago and there are still things to be fixed to like... get 6 flawed devices in a row. Usually when returns exceed 3 times after so much time its user error or "pickyness" uuh i dont like how the trackball looks on this lets switch, the OS is bugging out lets switch, im not getting my emails lets switch and so on. Or accidents such as a drop of water getting inside the keyboard circuitry and the guy didnt notice and the keys mess up so its a "factory faulty device"
I would also like to know how the "6th device" is "messing up"Last edited by gbsn; 10-15-2009 at 12:47 AM.

My main point of this thread is to know if switching to the Curve 8900 is a good choice? Simple as that.

BTW: It was 5 bold's because 1 they sent didnt even work out of the box, and they have all had diff problems except 2 were a trackball problem. Thanks!

I'm not going to get into "user error" or why 6 returns. This is my
opinion on the ACTUAL question.
If 3G means very little to you definitely get the 8900. It is an all
around better device.
Better form factor, higher resolution, albeit,
a slightly smaller screen, 3.2mp camera with auto focus and image
stabilization, twice the app memory of the Bold, dedicated
buttons for k/board lock and standby and the black trackball
which will never discolor nor will you have to buy one separately.
Prior to the 8900 I had a Bold. Personally I do not miss it at all.
Hopefully this, my opinion based on having used them both
extensively gives you a little insight. - 10-15-2009, 01:04 AM

Very well could be but I really don't think you would be making
a mistake. It really is a very nice unit. I have not had a day of
trouble with it since I got it. Not one.
You might want to drop an AT&T or T-Mobile store and play
with it. The Bold has the much better keyboard so definitely
play with that aspect. - 10-15-2009, 01:11 AM

Yeah I will plan on doing that tomorrow just to make sure that's what I wanna do. The camera is what really gets me and the black trackball. So will see what happens. Once again, thank you!!!

Using 8900 and 9000 back to back, you will find:
-Slightly slower on the 8900, despite the copious amounts of memory
-Very tactile/clicky keyboard, people will hear you type in a quiet setting but it has more feedback than a Bold keyboard
-Smaller screen but higher resolution = hope you have some good eyes, I found the Bold screen to be easier on the eyes
-The 8900 is light-- fits and slides better into pockets
-8900 camera is better, and the flash is whiter and brighter
At the end of the day, I prefer the Bold.www.balanceyours.com

I think the 8900 is much better than the bold but I prefer the bold just on looks.

If you have the Bold's dropped calls a lot and you don;t need 3G,I'd say it's a good idea. It's a beautiful phone, great screen, great form factor and battery. I can't do it, I need Bold's 3G&keyboard.

I could never give up simultaneous voice and data, which = fail for the 8900

Personally, due to battery life and the dropped calls of 3G in my area, I have turned off 3G on the Bold.
Been trying to decide if I should just switch over to an 8900 too.Ever to Conquer, Never to yield...
