Default Remove service book pushed icons?

Does anyone have ANY idea on how to prevent the AT&T service books for all the junk like media mall, pacman, mobile tv etc from coming over to the bold? I found out that I have OVER 3 MEG of service book short cuts for things that I want NOTHING to do with... Tried shrink an oS, no dice... even comes over on leaked versions. Any help would be great.

You can't. Just put them in a folder and then hide the whole folder. This gets
asked at least once a week.

Even if you could remove them they would be pushed again by the carrier.

Also, I seriously doubt the 3mb number. Most of these icons are less than 10kb each.

    Be 5000 10,000 50,000 - You can haz cookeez........and stuff

No way...unless you don't ever connect to the network

The service books will always load when you connect, turn on, reboot, or whatever. Sorry to say, you'll have to consider that space lost...I don't remember it being 3mb though. On a side note, its fun to see how fast I can drop them into my "Junk" folder and hide that sucker!

You can also attempt to go in and delete the entries, I'm not sure how regularly these things get pushed back to the device, but I know on T-Mobile they don't restore unless you purposely have the service books resent from your BIS account.

The "move to folder and hide" method is possibly better though if you don't wish to have to go in and remove these things every now and again if AT&T is pushy with how often these things are sent.

Yes I've heard of the thread before, but trying to google something that specific doesn't help much, and doing a thread search I couldn't find anything. I am able to delete, and thankfully I only have to delete the service books after a boot up or service books update. GRRRR... thank goodness for my tour on VZW... Crackberry nation lives on...

A few of them will delete, like 2-3. Then some of the icons can be hidden, but most of them need to be placed in a folder and hide the folder. The 3rd time they forced this junk on me I called and complained, haven't gotten them since. All they have to do is open your number's profile in their system and uncheck the box for "pushed junk icons" and voila, no more junk.

I also read on here that if you contact att about on being interested in mobile TV and the like, that they are advertizements and they will wipe them from your account and wont show up on the phone anymore. Haven't done it yet, but I will this week.

Forgot to mention that bbFilescout has also worked to remove some of those icons for me.

I've contacted AT&T several times about these, at first I was told they would block them but when they appeared again after I deleted the service books, every person I spoke with after that told me that there is no way to stop them from being pushed to the phone. One rep even told me that they're embedded in the phone and cannot be removed (which we all know is absolutely ridiculous), but the bottom line is that you can delete the service books for them and thus removing the icons, but once the service books are pushed again they will come right back, guaranteed. They are the herpes of the Blackberry world. The only option is to hide them, period.

What I would like to know though is WHY they must insist on pushing these on people that have absolutely NO interest in them whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, everything they push is absolutely worthless and I would NEVER use in a million years. What they're doing is the equivalent of shoving a cigarette into a non-smoker's face and saying "here, take a drag!"

Maybe we should start a petition to get them to either stop pushing them or at least give us the option to delete them permanently. It's basically forced spam with no way of stopping it, just like porn, money scams and casino spam.

That just isn't true. I called and complained and they haven't sent them to me since. I just sent my service books last night after an upgrade to 5.0.411 and those icons did not show up at all.

You should refrain from saying things that you cannot verify. So you have been unsuccessful at getting off the list, that doesn't mean that it's impossible. If you went fishing and didn't catch anything, does that mean that there are no fish in the ocean?

You can't get rid of them completely. They always come back! Check the contract you signed. It basically states that they can push whatever content they want on your phone whenever they feel like it!!! $uck$ but thats the way it is!

Look, I know they have every right to push that crap to me, and I know that I have no expectation of calling them and getting them to stop. I understand about the contracts and system protocols and blah blah blah. There's no good reason to believe that you can get them to stop, aside from the fact that that's exactly what I did. I called, made a compelling argument, and they went into the system and unchecked whatever little box that includes all that crap when the service books are sent to my phone. Actually, they unchecked that little box for every phone on my family's account. So sit there and say that it's not possible, while I sit here not having to hide umpteen icons every time I update my OS.

I'm curious to know what kind of "compelling argument" you made, seeing as how I as well as many other people have called them countless times to have them stopped and nobody has been successful. Oh, except for you, that is.

That's not true either. There was a similar thread about this very same topic some months ago, in which several people had reported success in getting AT&T to stop pushing the junk icons. That's where I got the idea from.

The main reason for my complaint was that while attempting to delete the get at&t navigator icon I somehow activated the trial and they started charging me $10/month. When I first called they were trying to make me pay for the charges and didn't want to delete the service, so I had to talk to 2 supervisors. Then I told them that their business practices cause me to never want to use any apps or services that they would ever offer, and that the only reason they pushed that crap to our devices is so some of us would unwittingly open one and start incurring monthly charges. Then I told them that I know how easy it must be to just go into the computer right in front of him, and check a little box so that I would no longer get the icons pushed to me. He put me on hold, and 5 minutes later he came back on saying that I would be receiving a credit for the charges, and that I wouldn't receive any more "opportunities" in the future. I haven't seen them since.

On a more personal note - I used to come here everyday to seek advice, learn new things, and pass on anything I could to other BB addicts. But I noticed something a few months ago that made me stop coming here on a regular basis. There are so many forum members who ignorantly challenge the honesty and accuracy of other forum members, and I'm sick of having to prove every little thing I say. I think that reasonable people have the right to call BS whenever the situation dictates, but in this case, you blindly claim that getting rid of those icons permenately is impossible, and anyone who claims otherwise must be lying. How could you possibly prove that my claims are false? All you could possibly have to go on is your failure and the failure of other posters (all 10 or so of them) at getting them removed. I know that this medium incourages embellishment because of the anonymity of the internet, and that you may feel some sort of responsibility to forum members who may not be as savvy, to disprove certain claims. But if you aren't able to concretely disprove a certain claim, then you yourself are guilty of speaking on something in which you don't know about - the very definition of ignorance.

Bottom line, some of you were so quick to call my claim outrageous and false, when in fact I'm just simply telling the truth about a subject in which I have no possible reason to lie. Throwing unfounded accusations around is insulting and irritating, and you should be more careful.

I never "blindly claimed that getting rid of those icons permenately is impossible", I'm stating fact from what I was told several times by several different people at AT&T, so I am definitely not "guilty of speaking on something in which I don't know about". Couple that with the fact that pretty much everyone here who has tried to have them stopped has failed and the best advice is to just hide them, period.

I've only read one other person here who claimed they were able to get them stopped, but that was a person who has made 2 posts here since joining in April, so that can be taken with a grain of salt. I even started a thread telling people to call AT&T to have them removed because I was falsely told by a rep that they could and would stop pushing them, but when they came back after deleting them the several calls I made after that all resulted in them telling me there's no way to stop them. I was told the first rep I spoke with misunderstood what I was asking to have stopped and thought I was asking to opt-out on mail and e-mail advertising. I made sure the other reps I spoke with clearly understood what I was trying to accomplish, and they all eventually told me the same thing: it's not possible.

As far as being able to "concretely disprove a certain claim", no, I can't concretely disprove your claim any more than you can disprove mine. But for me, my personal experiences along with the many posts on this site claiming they can't be stopped versus the couple posts claiming they can make hiding the icons the best advice to give.

Wow. Lot of folks toting around the holiday spirit around here lately. I personally just hide the icons as they come back whenever I delete them.

That said I've seen some folks post that they had good luck getting AT&T to stop pushing them; I've also see folks post that AT&T *wouldn't* stop pushing them so YMMV.

I called ATT and they told me that RIM sends their Service Books. So technically RIM sends out the ATT service books.
