New message tone

This is possibly a stupid question but is it possible to have a custom message tone?

I haven't heard any info on assigning separate message tones for certain contacts. 3rd party app time???

Sure you can! Go in to your address book and find the person you want to have the custom tone. Click the menu button and scroll down to Add Custom Ring Tone. It will only apply to that person.

is that only for phone calls, or for text messages?
I didn't know if it was possible to get a specific tone for a specific person contacting you other than a phone call?

It does it for phone calls, email, sms, etc. Anything you receive from that person will be that tone. I have three set up that way.

Profiles>Advanced>Menu>New Profile
Create a new profile
Profiles>Advanced>Menu>New Exception
Create a new Exception and direct it to your new profile

As an example, I have created a Profile "Sanguine" where I have all message alerts set to the "sanguine" tone. I have created an Exception "Kim" whereby all messages from contact "Kim" are assigned to Profile "Sanguine."

Wait, so Kim has her own message tones as well as ring tone??

Yes.
And Joe has his own message tones and ring tone. Everyone else defaults to the active profile's message tones. (Further ring tone exceptions may exist, based on the address book setting, etc.)
