Default New Bold - BES Hack to Enable SMS

After several years of using my personal BB Curve to handle my personal and corporate email needs (using BB Internet Service), I have been required by a new corporate policy to begin using a new company-owned BB Bold (now using BES). The problem is, I have become a big SMS user over the last year, and the company's BES prevents me from texting.

In short, I can receive texts, but I no longer have menu options to either compose new texts or reply to texts that I've received. Through our help desk, I have confirmed that one of the company's BES rules is to restrict company BBs from SMS.

Is there a hack available that might allow me to begin using SMS on this BB? I'm using AT&T, BTW.

Apologies if this has been addressed- I've researched this forum extensively and can't come to a conclusion.

Thanks.

Not possible, that is the beauty of having a device from RIM. Other have tried but never prevailed. Basically as long as you are connected with BES, the IT policy will always override/restrict any changes that you make with your device that is not allowed. You can 'temporarily" wipe the IT policy, but your IT admin, would just resend the services books and what not and it will just disable/block everything again. Point being having a BB through work is like having big brother monitoring your every move (GPS tracking), call, messages etc 24/7.

nope. and even if there was, through BES, your company would be able to see and read your SMS's. then, after they re-establish the blocking of them, they would terminate your employment. i mean seriously, why would you risk that over some stupid texts and going against company policy? you can still have your own private use phone right? use that.

No possible. And if you want to keep you job, wouldn't think about it anyway. Admins see everything. Just get another phone.

Some people dont think company policy applies to them. Either that or they think they can "cheat" the system. You want to get fried go and try.

Thanks for the responses.

I didn't go into all of the company policy-related detail in my original post, but I found that the company for some reason has just implemented this SMS policy w/ BB 9000's, for some reason (sounds silly, I know). Several coworkers w/ 8310s or earlier models have functioning SMS. I haven't gotten into pushing my IT support on this, and based on the responses that I've seen on this list so far, I'll probably just leave this alone.

I appreciate your help.

I was reading through some help notes on the site and came across this interesting conversation.. Yes, you are absolutely right and it is against company policy to undo what IT has locked down on the company phone, but then what is the person had been upgraded from BB-8310 to the latest BB-3G and the company has no use or there is no need for him to return the BB-8310, is there a way to undo the sms lock down? Its not always cheating; sometimes its a privilege and i am saying this because I have tons of company phones no longer needed in my closet. Is there a way to undo it?

Look in the how-to forum. There is a thread that will explain how to remove an it policy. I haven't had to do it myself, but as I understand it, bbsak will be the easiest way to accomplish it. If I remember right, it has a one click feature to delete the policy.
