LOVE MY BOLD Hate the build quality.. Anyone else??
It just boggles me how loose the back cover stays on this phone, and how a few drops or rub marks will break the back cover loose to fall off and then the battery decides to jump as well, and THEN a 5 minute layover waiting for this thing to reboot.
also Im getting alot of scratches on my screen. what are these screen made out of anyways??? - 02-21-2009, 02:47 PM #2
Yep. The batt door cover drives me nuts. $600 device and I had to put tape on the inside.

yeah thats just poor quality to me, and I really dont want to hear the warranty cheerleaders chant "get a new one, take it back etc. etc" this is my 3rd bold and it does it to all of them..
and another beef (to at&t) why is it that if my ear piece breaks or something like that I have to wait till they are sending one back for warranty. I dont want to use someone else's funky ear piece.... WTF??? - 02-21-2009, 02:53 PM #4
To the OP, you obviously don't take good care if your phone. If you have scratches then that's your fault for not using a screen protector. I've had my Bold since Nov 4 and I have not one single scratch on it. I guess I also lucked out with the battery cover because mine doesn't have any issues what so ever
You also complain of a 5 minute reboot time? Are you friggin serious?
All petty crap.....next thread!

I am on my first bold. No battery cover issues and no scratches on the screen.
I agree with above poster. You must not be as carefull as most are with their phones. I have no scratches on the screen or anywhere els. Phone is still looking as new as when I got it.

I wouldn't exactly condemn the Bold as a poor build quality device on the basis of the battery door. Sure, it's an error. Mine isn't loose but it had a bit of play. And I want it tight like anyone else would. But other than that, I have no issues with build.
The don't think the screen is particularly easy to scratch, as I have had my phone for 5 months and don't have a sctratch yet and don't use a screen protector. - 02-21-2009, 02:59 PM

oh well excuse me for working in sports broadcast television which requires me to be on the road 9 months of out the year, or traveling through airport twice sometimes 4 times in a week and having "wonderful" TSA rummage through your stuff.. OR setting up mobile television compounds across the world, like the 2008 olympics in Beijing.
not all of us can have the luxury of needing a blackberry to full fill business needs and yet keep our phones on a pillow case next to our x box's
and yeah i think waiting 5 to 8 minutes for a reboot is semi ridiculous.
also screen protector my ***. this thing leaves its leather carrying case and goes to my ear and right back to its case. if they made the screen out of glass like its direct competition IPHONE, it wouldnt be an issue.. so take RIM's pee pee out of your mouth for a sec and think about the consumer that spends top dollar for these products... - 02-21-2009, 03:00 PM #9

I have to agree with the OP. I am on my second Bold (dont ask what happened to the first one). The first one I had creaked like crazy and the battery door was so loose it would practically fall off by itself. As was pointed out, I would expect better build quality for a phone that costs this much. Sadly, I do not think this problem is unique to the Bold. Consumer electronics are in general poorly made. In the attempt to cram as many features into any one device, manufacturers are forced to cut cost somewhere. Most of time its in build quality. This makes some business sense because we live in a disposable world and the reality is we will probably replace our gadgets long before they actually cease operating.

Downloaded an app today so thought I would take the opportunity of this little fist fight to do a batt pull and check the time to reboot.
Holy spot on, JD! I was one minute and 35 seconds. - 02-21-2009, 03:11 PM

not at all..
Your argument is pointless to rebuttal as well..
I guess after all is said and done, im surrounded and outnumbered by people who own bolds because of the "hey I want to be cool too" factor.
I stand alone on this thread for people who use they're bold's for the workhorse's that they are. - 02-21-2009, 03:16 PM

If your Bold gets you pants in a twitty I think it's time to dump it. I for one have had my Bold since the day it was released, battery door is tight, screen unscratched and I carry it most of the time in my jeans front pocket. Boot time is less than 2 minutes, running OS 4.6.0.237.
