Strange... the software platform on .1067 (Software Platform: 5.2.0.89) is lower than .1049 (Software Platform: 5.2.0.93).
Is this really a higher version?BlackBerry Z10 (10.1.0.273) + BlackBerry Bridge (3.0.9.11) + BlackBerry PlayBook 64GB Wi-Fi (2.1.0.1526) = Awesome! - 03-25-2011, 10:31 AM #6
Did you guys have to shrink your OS? How much app memory do you have left?

BlackBerry® 9000
smartphone (3G, Wi-Fi)
v5.0.0.1067 (Bundle 1728, Platform 5.2.0.89)
First I used the desktop manager to BACKUP my entire phone.
I then used the provided link to get the new OS. (POST No. 1)
If you plan on shrinking your OS don't use Desktop Manager to acquire it, just download it.
I used Shrink-A-OS to get the OS from 114+mb to 84+mb and installed it.
After the initial re-boot I used the Desktop Manager to replace all my third party apps and personal information.
I personally never had an install go so smoothly.
I had one minor issue, the module named "net_rim_bb_lbs_api_2" was missing and when trying to install Poynt I encountered an error "Cannot install Poynt with because the module net_rim_bb_lbs_api_2 module is missing, blah blah blah". The module is in the OS folder for the new OS so I simply used BBSAK to toss that MoFo back into my phone. This will require a reboot for the new module to show up.
Went back to install Poynt again and it runs smooth as Carla Gugino's thighs!
Over all the OS is very nice and I am thrilled I did the upgrade. As compared to 1049 it seems to flow better without any hiccups when using apps and when moving from app to app.
I don't see any increase in available memory space as compared to 1049 so it's most likely some fixes. As usual I go from 45mb, just after a reboot to about 33+mb after using the phone for awhile and with all of my personal adjustments and apps installed.
5.2.0.93 is part of the Spanish Telefonica OS and 5.2.0.89 is part of the new Blackberry / ATT OS just released right?
People on the fence, I say give it a try because it seems to be working wonderfully.

Slingbox still doesn't work.
Went back to .610. - 03-25-2011, 07:16 PM #11
The different file that affects it being a downgrade is UMTS/rim9000.sfi which seems to be some sort of radio file. Seems kind of janky and I dont know if it will blow up (and im slightly afraid to pull the trigger) but if you put the rim9000.sfi from your last update into this package it wants to proceed as a normal update.

Also I just noticed that this is a downgrade for VVM from 2.0.0.222 to 2.0.0.212

VVM?
Who gives a rats *** about VVM?

im just reporting the facts...
also, re: your question about what makes the spanish file an upgrade: presumably the higher version number.
anyways, i did a frankenstein update comprised of the at&t package, with the telefonica rim9000.sfi and vvm files...nothing exploded, everything appears to be fine. - 03-26-2011, 08:03 AM #16

Wow. I'm surprised that AT&T released this.

I'm surpised this OS was not leaked. Everyone would know if this OS had issues.
Then again, why leak an obsolete model? - 03-27-2011, 12:52 AM #19
I installed this new build on my daughter's Bold 9000 yesterday. It seems like you have to do a bunch of battery pulls to make things work fine.

I haven't done one battery pull since the install. Maybe 2 restarts max.

I've been running it for about 24 hours now... Not sure about the battery life yet, but the free memory is higher. I was hovering at about 7-8 MB free on .1049, and now I have about 14 MB free after the OS takes its share of memory for operation. Otherwise, everything else looks fine.
I know that the software platform is lower in .1067 than .1049, but RIM might have a reason for this. Perhaps there were bugs in the higher version, so they reverted to the lower version for the higher OS number? Otherwise, I'm sure they would have used the higher platform if it indeed was better.BlackBerry Z10 (10.1.0.273) + BlackBerry Bridge (3.0.9.11) + BlackBerry PlayBook 64GB Wi-Fi (2.1.0.1526) = Awesome! -
