Joined the Bold crew, questions (Orange UK)
Hey guys, I've Joined the bold crew, got my first blackberry this week. It is great and I have not stopped playing with it. But just a couple of questions:
1) My BB Maps is crap. The GPS is always looking for satellites and I've been told to possibly update my OS? I'm a blackberry noob so how do I find my current OS version and do Orange UK surport any upgrades to the OS?
2) I have WIFI and an unlimited data plan. But I would like it if the WIFI gets priority over my data plan if in range. I think it has been doing so, but how can I be sure?
Thankyou. - 01-22-2009, 04:42 PM #2
Hi, to find out your OS go to Options>about - you will see something like v4.6.0.126 (thats mine) Not sure how to update as im newbie too
Also, if your in Wi-Fi range from what im told, it will use Wi-Fi over 3G.
Hope this helps

Try downloading Google maps and use that instead of Maps, it works a ton better.

Hey up all
Thought I'd say Hello as well as I'm also new to world of Blackberry Bold.
When I got my Bold last month I was running s/w 4.6.0.126 but I jumped up to 4.6.0.216 after a week, best thing I did as now my Bold is running faster then when it came out of the box but I think by upgrading your s/w your warranty may not be valid any more. But if want to still go ahead then I found this link a great help (read it a couple of time before doing the upgrade)
hxxp://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-how-install-or-upgrade-new-rim-operating-system-os]BlackBerry 101: How to Install or Upgrade to a New RIM BlackBerry Operating System (OS) (change xx for tt)
Also give Google maps a try, it's not bad for a freebie
Feel free to pin message me

Hi and welcome, O2 for me but pretty much the same issues.
BB Maps is OK, it takes me from 30secs to 5 mins to get the GPS lock, but once it has it is great. Google maps is the same, and Nav4all is good for telling you which way to go. You will have to wait for the Satellites with all of them though and you must have a data plan.
With Wifi, if you change your browser to be the Hotspot Browser, it will always use wifi when available. I have one Bold without a data plan and I use this this all the time.
hope that helps
