The IMEI in "Status" is different from the IMEI under the BB
Hello,
I recently bought a used blackberry from someone.
I can't registered my bb to my wireless network, they said that the bb is not registered..
I saw that the IMEI in the "status" menu is 004401.13.272524.9 which is pretty strange and different from the IMEI under the battery "35xxxx".
How can I get back the original IMEI of the cell phone?
Nobody get this problem before me or what?

There is a very good chance that the IMEI has been changed.
The one on the sticker is most likely the correct one. The one under Status can be changed but software. (the process is a lot like debrand a Blackberry).
Reason for it... well, no comment on that... changing IMEI is also illegal I think. - 09-02-2009, 03:43 PM #5
The correct IMEI should start 35... so the electronic copy has obviously been replaced to conceal its identity. Even a replacement circuit board should still have a valid IMEI, and in fact the entire phone would be replaced.
There is no point trying to change the IMEI back to original. It is almost certainly on the "stolen phone" database so your network should refuse to connect it, and may even send cops to your door. Likewise there is no point inventing another IMEI which looks good, because you will not have a matching PIN and IMEI pair so BlackBerry service will still not work.
My advice is to get your money back if possible and get a legitimate phone. If the seller was a business you may be able to get them to refund. If you bought in a private deal it may be more difficult, unless you used ebay and paypal protection. - 09-02-2009, 05:26 PM

Thanks for you response but I forget to add something.
When the seller give me the phone, I took directly the blackberry option.
12 hours later I received his email.
I told him that and he directly ask Orange to stop it and now I don't respond anymore.
I think the telephone is not stolen (I got all the papers and the billing ticket)
When I meet him in paris to make the exchange I asked him why did he have unlock the phone, he told me that it's better to sell it.
I think he don t even know that the unlock process went wrong.
I will try to change the IMEI I think... - 09-02-2009, 09:57 PM #7
If it was unlocked by unlock codes, the IMEI won't get changed.
If unlocking the phone was done by other methods which I won't list out (I think it's against the forums rules, sorry), it might have changed the IMEI.
You couldn't register the BB on the network probably because the PIN and IMEI are not matched (no confirmation on this, but PIN and IMEI is related). So if the BB PIN is not suspended, you could try to change the IMEI and PIN back to the original ones on the sticker, most likely it will be able to register. - 09-04-2009, 09:10 PM #9
changing IMEIs is illegal pretty much anywhere. although the tools required are readily available and able to be sourced on the net. its a pure shame that people do it though. and no, im not saying what the name of the program is called.

I think I understand this. Your information shows two problems...
1. The IMEI and PIN are probably still assigned to Orange on the seller's account. The email may be stopped but the phone is probably still registered on the seller's Orange BIS. He needs to release this himself, or ask Orange to release the PIN and IMEI so it can be registered to you on the carrier of your choice.
2. The new information suggests the unlock was done incorrectly using a cable connection, and the IMEI was corrupted by the unlocker. If you can trace the original unlocker he may be able to correct this error. Otherwise you probably need the assistance of a professional repair service. I do not recommend trying to reprogram it yourself unless you have some experience or access to support for the software. - 09-05-2009, 12:53 PM #13
