I'm new to the whole BB scene
Hi,
I'm new to the whole BB scene
As of today I own a BlackBerry Bold 9000
v4.6.0.211 (I did a hard reset and I haven't connected the BB to the Desktop Software on my mac yet)
My question;
Can I use 3G on my BB to surf the internet or use FB/Twitter?
When I open the "Browser" and I surf to google it says "This is a Wi-Fi service. Please ensure your device has an active Wi-Fi connection and try again."
Now... I did some research on this one and I found out that the reason why the "Browser" is giving me this error is because it's using "Hotspot Browser" which cannot connect to 3G (only Wi-Fi, if I'm correct?). If I go to the Browser settings there is only one option and that is "Hotspot Browser"
It says 3G at the top-right corner because I selected the 3G option in the Mobile Network setting and I'm paying for 3G (mobile internet) because it works perfectly fine on my iPhone.
Can anyone tell me what I have to do to make 3G work on my BB Bold 9000 or isn't this possible?
Thanks in advance! - 04-27-2012, 08:14 AM #2
Hey,
I just received my 9000 in the post today so just gone through the whole set up too
Have you subscribed to BlackBerry Internet service through your carrier? It won't work with a standard data plan. If you haven't done so yet, give them a call and they can add it for you (usually for an extra charge) or just swap your current plan to a blackberry version at no extra cost, depending on the carrier!
Hope this helps! - 04-27-2012, 09:00 AM

So I just went to the website of my carrier and it says the following;
"Blackberry's are only compatible with this carrier if you have Opera Mini installed. Remember this carrier has no Blackberry server."
That's one thing, but I would also like to use Twitter and FB over 3G - 04-27-2012, 09:06 AM #4
Twitter and FB should be fine. They don't use the "Blackberry server". Did you set up any email? You may have an issue with AppWorld as well.

If your carrier does not offer BIS you will only be able to visit m.facebook.com and m.twitter.com using Opera Mini. The native apps from RIM require BIS.
