Just saw my friends Bold 9000. He ditched it for his iPhone and it's just stuck on storage. I'm thinking of buying it. If I do, will the 128mb memory be able to handle BBOS 5, BBM and probably a GPS App?

'GoldenGod'....Well, imo the only issue with the 9000 could be the memory so you shouldn't go crazy about adding too many apps., that been said I am currently running a OS5-v5.0.0.1079 with all the 'FAT' removed using the BBH Tool vs 2.4.9.6, then some of the apps that I am using are BBM, BerryWeather, Upvise, Dropbox, Google Voice, Zona Snap, MeterBerry, HiWiFi, Led Notifier and a Banking App and the file free hovers between 25000000 and 30059524 give and take which is somewhere around 20% memory free of those 128mb. About the GPS App, not sure what you have in mind, perhaps Google Maps which is a big time memory hugger ? I use the native MAPS which works just fine. I have an iPhone too but still don't get all the fuss about it, I still prefer the trusty old Berry any day of the week and twice on sunday ! Good luck with your deal......
Oh..... and to keep those memory numbers over there you might need to learn to live with regular browser's 'history' and 'content cache' clear-ups process, running the native Memory Cleaner and one reboot a day which is always good......hahaha..........Last edited by rayporsche; 06-12-2012 at 02:17 PM. Another option is to download and use a Hybrid OS I use
http://forums.crackberry.com/hybrid-...-v7-0-a-638132
it works brilliantly

Thank you for your response rayporshe. I'm a big BB fan and to tell you the truth, I can't really afford these new BB Bold models that they are releasing. So I thought I could buy this old BB 9000 of his just to experience what it feels like to own a BB Bold.

Now, as for apps, I didn't know there was a native Map App for BB. If it's more memory efficient than Google Maps, then I would most likely use it. Now, as for other apps, I only use BBM, a battery charge tracking app, WhatsApp, uhm... music player, BB bridge (dunno if it's possible with Bold 9000
) and that's it I think. So, I hope I'll be fine with it.
Yeah, I don't get the iPhone as well, no offense.
Again, thank you for the advice. I hope he sells it to me.

Of all my Blackberries, my 9000 which I had only briefly was truly my favourite. It was my father's work phone for just under two years before I bought it for $50 and I sold it to a buddy who ran it almost a year after that till it died(he and I are much harder on phones).
This phone though unlike my other BB's which are tools actually managed to endear itself to me and I was pretty attached too it. If I hadn't switched carriers, I would still have her.
It has the perfect shape, size, weight(just the right amount of heft) amazing build quality and a truly upscale feel in the materials that my 9700 and even my 9860 lack to this day. I do miss it. Just wish it has the internals of the 9900 and a trackpad.8700, Bold 9000, Bold 9700, Torch 9860, Z10! No case FTW!!! - 06-18-2012, 02:19 PM #31

Yea, the Blackberry Bold 9000 is rocks as a retro device... and as for the "Blackberry Bold series" what van be more classic and "old school" then the Blackberry Bold 9000?

Well, as a current android user (Motorola Defy) I'm proud to say that I'm about to return to a Bold 9000.
I used to have a 9000 but dropped it in a water puddle and ruined it. Then I went with a 9700, 9550 (new carrier), 9700 (the same one but unlocked), 9780 (hated it, stuttering keyboard, os6, the horror) and lastly the Motorola Defy.
Android's viruses were the only dealbreaker me, I somehow got a trojan virus and my twitter account got hacked then my origin (EA) account, at this time I changed all of my passwords and reinstalled the os. Now I'm pretty much scared.
I still have the 9700 on it's 3rd display lol but nah... 9000 FTW. - 07-07-2012, 07:14 PM #34
I picked up a White Bold 9000 new in the box at Fry's Electronics today for $199- still my favorite speakers on a phone - ever. I'm going to put the almost year old 9900 in the drawer for the summer and rock the original in white!

I was checking out the new black ones on ebay earlier. £180 is the cheapest I saw. There are cheaper new 9000's from Hong Kong but I'm not sure of they're fake and if not why are they in HK ?

Ben1232 180 seems way too much, I would get a mint-second hand one from a reputable US seller and have it shipped to the UK.
That70sGAdawg I was really impressed with the 9900, it sure is a heck of a nice phone, and I really love the 9000 but why are you going back with the 9000? - 07-08-2012, 11:47 PM #37
Just change for changes sake sometimes. Summer going retro. I have a BB for my work number. The 9000 does email, calls , records radio shows with tuneIn radio, text, and plays great tunes. I have a personal iPhone 4 with me a lot too for "apps".
I"ll go back to the 9900 in the Fall.. maybe.Life is too short to spend time messing with Windows Computers, and any phone but a Blackberry.

I bought a few broken ones before, was able to fix them. I have a white one in mint condition and a black one that says made in Canada, its probably old.

Blackberry BOLD 9000
Well, it's already classic / old school... But, yes, I still love it... The Blackberry Bold 9000 is on of my favorite Blackberry phones.
the time it was new it was the best phone out there.
I really like the build quality of it. - 07-31-2012, 02:09 AM #43

I had a heck of a time unlocking this thing tho. Now only thing left to do is to update the phone. It's my first blackberry (coming from iphone 4) and i have no idea where to start.

Al1n, check out this conversation about using a 16GB SD card.
Max Size sotrage for SD card the bold can take??
Biggest I have put in mine is a 8GB SanDisk. It worked perfect. - 08-05-2012, 02:35 AM #49
Thanks for the link! I actually got it as a gift for a relative but I have used it after unlocking it. The keyboard is a dream to type on!! I am debating whether to pick one up for myself now!
What are the chances I would be able to find a brand new one again at that price? :-(Last edited by vegetto_456; 08-05-2012 at 08:12 AM.
