OK so I have an AT&T branded Bold which I purchased under a new contract a little over a month ago.
I want to move it to Tmobile.
I first got a hold of a Tmobile SIM from a store but have not yet activated the SIM with service from Tmobile.
I then got an unlock code and unlocked the Bold.
At this point I put the Tmobile SIM in and I get a Tmobile signal, seems to pick up the network.
Problem is that it only seems to get a GSM signal rather than the EDGE signal that I use to get just a few short months ago in my house from the same carrier. I had a Tmobile branded Pearl and my wife had a Razor. We both got an EDGE signal and it nevered showed GSM except when the phones first booted up.
Since it will cost me $175 to cancel my AT&T account and move this phone to Tmobile, I am concerned about the crappy GSM connection I am getting.
Is this because I need to activate my account first? Do I need to do something else to the phone to get EDGE?
It seems to me that if I just put the Tmobile SIM in, this should show me the signal I will get even after I finish making the changes in this thread.
I just wanted to confirm that this is as good as the signal will get for me. If this is the case, I am stuck with AT&T. I just can't understand why I got EDGE for over a year in the same house WITH Tmobile and now with the Bold I get crappy GSM. Is the signal weaker with the Bold than my old Pearl?
Any help would be appreciated.
