PT Taylor, you are the master! As I pinned you the other day, I received an unlocked Bold from Optus Australia and could not get the browser to work on my TM USA account. Called TM, called RIM...nada! Then I find this thread and viola! I have it working. Thanks for being a genius. Sorry to gush, I'm just very happy.

OK so I have an AT&T branded Bold which I purchased under a new contract a little over a month ago.

I want to move it to Tmobile.

I first got a hold of a Tmobile SIM from a store but have not yet activated the SIM with service from Tmobile.

I then got an unlock code and unlocked the Bold.

At this point I put the Tmobile SIM in and I get a Tmobile signal, seems to pick up the network.

Problem is that it only seems to get a GSM signal rather than the EDGE signal that I use to get just a few short months ago in my house from the same carrier. I had a Tmobile branded Pearl and my wife had a Razor. We both got an EDGE signal and it nevered showed GSM except when the phones first booted up.

Since it will cost me $175 to cancel my AT&T account and move this phone to Tmobile, I am concerned about the crappy GSM connection I am getting.

Is this because I need to activate my account first? Do I need to do something else to the phone to get EDGE?

It seems to me that if I just put the Tmobile SIM in, this should show me the signal I will get even after I finish making the changes in this thread.

I just wanted to confirm that this is as good as the signal will get for me. If this is the case, I am stuck with AT&T. I just can't understand why I got EDGE for over a year in the same house WITH Tmobile and now with the Bold I get crappy GSM. Is the signal weaker with the Bold than my old Pearl?

Any help would be appreciated.

You need to activate the T-mo account WITH a Blackberry Data plan. Then you will get EDGE. Do the steps of the guide to get the needed T-mo servicebooks for the Browser and MMS. If you got good signal with the Pearl you will get better with the Bold as it has a touch larger antena.

If you don't have BB data plan active you will just see the lower case edge - - you won't get the upper case until it is on an active BB data plan and you are getting an edge signal of course. How many bars are you getting as far as signal strength - - that might be more useful in determining your signal reception from T-Mobile. Also you could look at the T-Mobile coverage map online - they now have the ability to filter the map and just look at the data coverage areas. I would assume that if you got the signal ok on your old BB device you would get the same with your Bold - - my Bold antenna seems to be slightly better than my Curve's antenna, maybe due to physical size, but I get a better signal on the Bold in my home than I did with my Curve.

edge = edge network signal available

EDGE = BlackBerry Data active on device

I don't get "edge" or "EDGE" I get "GSM". That's what's bugging me, I know I could get EDGE before. I will have another look at the coverage maps, it's been a while since I looked at them since I thought I already knew the Tmobile coverage pretty well.

One more question, is it easy to get my phone back to the Stock AT&T setup if I decide to do that?

Default Need help...???

Hi All,

I'm now just lost on this unlocked AT&T Bold and what features are working and not suppose to on a T-Mobile BB Data plan.

After I followed pltaylor instructions, I got the browser working (T-zone only) but none of my BBM, Yahoo Messenger, Google Maps and other apps are working (no data received..and got timed out)...I've been told that these won't work...Is this true? I thought all apps would fully functional...

And I can't register my BB on the network...I've sent bunch of register messages but none returned...

Please help???
