| | How do I check which AT&T frequency my Bolds on?
In NYC, AT&T is moving their 3G network from 1900mhz to 850mhz. Some areas supposedly has been switched. Is there a way to see which band im on?

dictoresno beat me to it. But that's fitting, he beat me to figuring out the engineering screens too. Follow posts from him, Thyth and Croe if you want to learn a thing or two about the way cellular networks work and how to monitor that from the escreens built into your phone. If you want to get to the escreens without unbranding, you can use the first two steps in this tutorial: http://forums.crackberry.com/f83/how...anding-207789/ |

and as for my above posts, i want bashing blindman4556 on his post. but in all honesty, this is the perfect place for laymen to learn the same way i did here and, mostly, on howardforums about the way things work.
but yes, as far as i can tell, the engineering screen is the only place to tell if you are on 850 or 1900mhz. i wouldnt expect to find it anywhere on any phones normal OS/Firmware other than that type of menu.

It's my latest geek fetish and my wife thinks it's ridiculous but I think it's pretty sweet. You're right about howardforums too, that place is quite the wealth of info. I just discovered it and you will definitely see me over there as time permits as well.

in the US, Canada, South America, the Caribbean, most parts of Mexico, and i believe some parts of Japan, they operate primarily on the celluar frequencies of 850mhz and 1900mhz. in the rest of the world, they operate on 900mhz and 1800mhz GSM bands. the OP was wondering which of the 850 or 1900 he was operating on. this typew of information is usually unknown to the end consumer as it could be either of the two. the only way to find that info is in a special menu in most phones. 3G (Third Generation), which is a term used for data speeds, can operate on either frequency. however some markets are using new bands, either 2100mhz or the 1700mhz (tmobile) for phone and data.

For some reason I was tinking mpirical's companion was found somewhere at howardforums, but perhaps I just found a link there or something. mpirical is what struck me as a huge resource. I don't know why I was associating the two.

Other than pure curiosity, why would you want to know? Being in a city, you should have good reception already.

I live in Denver, which is a pretty decent size city, and I frequently have terrible service. There are lots of things you can do to improve your reception and your phone's performance in general if you know what your phone is doing and what tools are available to you to tweak its behavior.

Tweaking is getting more and more tempting to me as I had about 10 calls failed yesterday.
