Default how is the Bold 9000 holding up to the new devices?

is it considered "outdated"? i've had my Curve 8310 for the past two years and it hasn't given me a problem. but EDGE/No WiFi makes things just kind of frustrating when trying to refresh a Twitter app or waiting for your friend list in Facebook. i've always loved the Bold 9000's design, look and feel. i would go to a newer Blackberry but the trackpad isn't something i fancy. anyways, how's the Bold 9000? is it holding up to the newer devices? or is it getting dated like my Curve 8310? any advice would be great.

    thanks!

I would sadly have to say yes since this is by far my fav bberry. Memory is by far the biggest issue since the OS takes most of it and you will only have about 30 to 40mbs for apps. If you think about apps getting bigger because of their complexity, this phone won't last long. Battery is not as efficient as the 9700.

When OS 6 comes out, this phone will not see an update unlike the 9700. Differently put, it is outdated.

Yeah, I fancy the Bold 9000 a lot. No other Blackberry to date looks as good, I think personally. I don't really install too many apps though, so I don't believe memory would be too big of an issue. I like to keep my Blackberry pretty simple. Maybe like 5-7 applications tops.

I didn't think it would be getting the update. Just like how I knew that the Curve 8310 I have now wasn't going to get the 5.0 OS.

I checked your information up above, it says you have a Nexus One? How're you liking it? I was also checking it out, but I wasn't really wanting to pay that much for it, if I was going to do that I would get the HTC HD2. But if it was a great device I wouldn't mind.

I kept an open mind on the track pad and when I got my 9700 I instantly loved it. My mother in law just got a 9000 and I was helping her set up her email and ringer settings and I know hate the feel and operation of the track ball. I could never go back. That's my opinion and am no way trying to push a track pad device on you lol just wanted to share

    Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I know you aren't trying to push anything on me. I went to the AT&T store and played with the owners 9700 and I don't know, there is just something about it that I don't fancy. I guess since I'm so used to the trackball it's kind of something I've come used to. Now if the 9700 came with a trackball, I would probably pick it up.

There are times where i feel the 9700's keyboard is just too cramped, i love the 9000's. I really like the N1...it is sad i dont get to use it b/c my firm does not support it. I am going to put it up on ebay really soon cuz so if you're interested in buying it just PM me. It's for AT&T

Yeah, I don't like the fact that they downgraded the size with the 9700. I thought the 9000 was a perfect size even if it was a little big. But wow, that sucks about the Nexus One. It looks like a fantastic device. I might PM you, but I'm pretty settled on trying to keep to a Blackberry. Thanks though man.

I would say that if you can live with it's limitations, then it's a great phone. But it's definitely very close to the end of it's life cycle.

The day they make a 9000 size with a trackpad, I'll be ditching my iPhone for it.

I don't know, i could easily go 2 days on a full charge with minimal use. I have no problem getting a full day with heavy use, lots of browsing. Now if I stream radio, i can literally watch my battery drop...

I totally agree. The 9000 is a great device and was the flagship for a while. That being said, the camera, lack of trackpad, limited app memory, and battery make it a tad outdated when compared to the 9700. PS, Ive had 3 9000's.

I respect you opinion in every way. But you have yet to own a 9700, and I have owned both. The 9700 is superior in every function. Im not trying to sway you one way or the other, Im just stating a fact. The camera is twice as good, three times the memory, three times the battery life. I loved my 9000's, but this 9700 is amazing. I really am glad youre satisfied with yours, and if I didnt have the 9700, I would def still have a 9000.

Until I started reading these posts I was actually fairly happy with my Bold 9000. lol. Well, maybe it was really after I stopped at Verizon yesterday and checked out the new HTC Incredible that I was fairly happy with my Bold. I don't think my Bold is even 1 year old yet and for all the reasons you've mentioned, and a few you didn't mention, e.g., small application memory, camera deficits, web display not up to par, native mp3 player weaknesses, I'm beginning to look at trading up when my contract ends. But during the last year I've also felt it did everything I asked of it, and did it reliably. Exactly what I fundamentally wanted from a phone.

I guess you've got to figure out what you need your Bold 9000 for and how many apps yourw going to load on. With the latest Alexander Ekin and WillyBoy hybrids, I can easily get 1.5-2 days of moderate use but I always charge my Bold overnight. Seems like the most natural thing to do. Even when I had gsm phones that had multiple day battery life I'd still charge them overnight everynight. I have about 7 apps I use regularly loaded. I used to have 20 or so and deleted the excess. I boot up with 36-39mb and steady at 27mb for about 7-10 days before I reboot, not because of low memory, but because I usually try a new app and have to reboot to totally delete it. I love my Bold 9000. Tried the 9700 and gave it back after trying to like it for 2 weeks. I bought a 2nd BNIB Bold 9000 for when this one dies and RIM never make another similar sized BB. I play music and watch movies loaded on my 16gb card. What more do I need?

I'm pretty happy with my 9000. I'm constantly trying out new OS's (610 leak being the latest) and am usually happy with the results. There have been a couple versions when the memory leaks were unbearable, but those are the risks when trying out leaked OS's.

As far as apps are concerned, I have 4-5 that I usually depend on. Battery life is decent as I usually plug it in every night when I go to be (it doubles as my alarm). I can usually go about 2 days from a full charge with moderate email (BES) and web.

I've been eligible for an upgrade for the past 3 months, but haven't been able to justify spending the money for a 9700. Its going to take more than a spiffy trackpad and slightly more memory. My 9000 performs on par with the newer devices thanks to the many OS version upgrades available.
