As I just said above, you don't need to unbrand to do this. My phone is still AT&T branded and I was able to lock to 2G today without issue. If you don't feel like finding and downloading possibly illegal software and voiding your warranty, you can still gain access to the escreen and lock to whichever network you want.

in the Signal Location device, you can hit the menu button and the options are as follows....
save cell site
show cell site on map*
list saved cell sites
network details
gps details
save current location
show current location on map
list saved locations
device details
options
help
about
hide
copy
close
so the second option i put the * next to is where you can view it on the map. you guys are telling me you dont have that option? - 04-16-2009, 10:37 AM #28
Hey all. If the cell site info does not list coordinates, then the option to view it on a map will not be available. But if the cell tower site does list coordinates (lat., long.) the option to view on map will be there.

You can also access bbmaps another way. Set yourself up as a contact in bbmessenger, start a conversation with yourself (but don't interrupt! : ) and do a "Send My Location". A map will arrive in bbmessenger. Highlight and click on it. Voila! BBMaps is open.

It probably did and then didn't. I've noticed that too. I did a little test yesterday. Drove about 12 miles or so and had the program save all cell sites I came in contact with. Most sites listed coordinates but some didn't. For the ones that did I was able to view it on map. If a site has coordinates associated with it, the option to view on map will be there. Keep checking it the next time you're cruising around. Pretty cool.

yes thats correct. i noticed one site said it coordinates as not available or something and it didnt have the option to view it on a map. so you are right, the coordinates must be there for the option to appear to view the site on the map. its funny though, i went to check for one of the sites and i was looking all around and didnt see one at the location it said it was at lol. has anyone actually found the tower it says your connected to?

i think if you have more than one mapping program installed, you can edit the options in Signal Location to tell it what mapping program to use. i only have Google Maps installed so i dont have an option to change it.

Sticky! Excellent post. Works like a charm. Thanks!
BTW, I have both ggogle maps and Blackberry maps installed. No icon for Blackberry maps even after running this, selecting Blackberry maps (other choice is ggogle maps) and rebooting.
Blackberry maps works (comes out) when I use Blip (main reason I still have Blackberry maps installed).

im glad to see people are having good luck with this. by the way, you can also set the program to automatically save all cell sites you come in contact with.

What changes are people doing to improve GPS and bluetooth?

i dont think there is anything you can do to improve bluetooth. as for GPS, i dont know but again, i dont think there is anything you can do for that too.

switching to 2G only will be a huge improvement on battery life. much more than tweaking bluetooth or GPS will yield you.

as i said above, i dont think you can. i dont see how BT can be adjusted, as its mostly hardware operating on a certain frequency and limited to 10M or so as a class 2 device. and i also doubt anything can be done with the GPS as all it is is an antenna to pick up GPS signals from above.

a few questions. 1.) i clicked on the link provided for the installation. does this have to be done on a computer or your phone. 2.) when you go to the status page to check your signal strength, what numerical values do you want to have? less or more than 100?
Thanks! - 04-22-2009, 03:39 PM

i think theres an option to download to the desktop or over the air right on your BB. and as for signal values in dBm, you want a lower number. example, -74 dBm is like 4-5 "bars" whereas -115 dBm is like 1 bar.

something is wrong then. it should enter the engineering menu when u push that sequence. you might not be truely unbranded. try that other method then to enter the e screen.
