good question.. i'd like to know the answer to this as well..

my assumption is that since the bold battery is so thin, a higher capacity battery would have to be physically bigger; hence, possibly needing a new back cover. just my thoughts

I don't care if it has a hump back, my MOTO Q had a hump back with the big battery and it was ugly but boy did it last a long time.

I see this thread as a clear admission that the Bold battery life is cr@p, so thank you for agreeing with me. By the way, there are extended batteries and this has been discussed in the last week, di a search to find it I am not typing it all again!

Just found this Buy an eXpansys Extended Battery for BlackBerry Bold 9000 (1700 mAh), #EXTBAT-9000 - eXpansys UK not sure if it is physically any bigger than the Bolds original one?

Edit

The fact that it includes a replacement back cover makes me think that it is bigger!

Does anyone know if RIM will be making an extended themselves as they did with the 87XX series? I prefer using OEM over AM...
