Bold or Thunder/Storm
Seeing as to how the Bold and the Thunder/Storm release dates might be months/weeks apart, which device are you going to be shelling out for?
I'm still planning on buying the bold. I'm not sure how I'm going to like a touchscreen blackberry because I still feel QWERTY > Touchscreen. Still, I'm curious. Maybe I'll buy the 2nd generation of touchscreen blackberries after my Bold's contract expires.
What about you guys? - 07-16-2008, 09:04 AM #3
Hmm great question...to be honest I'm on the fence still... at first I was definetly going for the bold as I am not a fan of suretype but after seeing the features the touchscreen BB will have (including full qwerty in landscape mode) I'm really undecided at this point... Depending on the release I just may wait till both phones get released on the verizon network this way I can try the touchscreen out and if I dont like it within the first 30 days I can always swap it out for the bold (thanks to VZW's 30 day exchange return policy)

good point. I was thinking of trying both as well and seeing which I felt more comfortable with. No set release dates for either though, right? Seems the Bold will come out earlier on AT&T but the pushed back release for VZW may be in line with the Thunder (strictly for VZW).
Any way the thunder can touch the iPhone??? Thoughts about staying away from the first gen of BB touch screen? - 07-16-2008, 10:00 AM #5
Having played with an iPhone I like everything but the touch screen.
the Bold looks like everything I want, but the browser is not as good as the iPhone.
If the thunder types as good as the Bold (doubt it) with a browser that is as good as an iPhone then I like the thunder.
However, guy at work has the iphone and his contacts, Calendar and emails all SYNC without BES (which I don't have) and all I get is emails, so perhaps the iphone is better unless you have BES.
With BES bb cannot be beaten, but then I don't think I can get personal emails on it.
Difficult decision, my contract runs out in November, by then we might have bold and Thunder out - but I were buying today it would be a bold.____________________________________________

Hands down I'd take the thunder in a second! Already have a curve and asides from 3G capabilities I see the bold as a sidegrade with a few perks.
The thunder on the other hand, is both consumer focused but fundamentally a business tool. Best of both worlds.
My 2 cents anyhow...

I like the tactical feel of "real" keys, but I LOVE the big screen that the iPhone style phone brings to the table; so I am leaning towards the Storm (which is what I heard its official name is). My only fear is it may take BB a couple generations of the touch screen and software to get it just "right." I am a HUGE fan of SureType, so I was happy to hear that the new phone will have both options...a smart move on BB's part. I hope the browser is well thought out so using it for the internet will not be a disappointing experience.

yea, going with the first touch screen device (Storm) that RIM is releasing worries me. For example, look at the improvements Apple made after the problems they had with their first gen iPhone. Sure, they upgraded to 3G, but they smoothed out a lot of bugs and problems (and still seem to be having some issues)
My brother has a new 3G and it is not uncommon for him to be surfing the web in Safari and then it just closes the browser. Sometimes you can open it up and resume where you were, sometimes it clears the cache.
Just little issues here and there.... But anyway, that is the only thing that scares me about the Storm - 07-16-2008, 12:32 PM #13-RConcheiro

I think I will have to try them both out. We'll see what one has the better feel for me. I think I'll buy the thunder/ storm first and if I don't like it i'll exchange for the bold. Right now i'm happy with my 8830 though.
