Bold Speaker problem? (too low)
Hey guys, Ive had my bold for a few months now and i notice that the volume my phone rings at is EXTREMELY low. I have it set on high but i still miss about 90% of my calls. My ringer on my old curve on high pretty much scared the crap out of anyone around me lol. Also the bold has a very low speakerphone. I can barely hear anything, again, my curve was extremely loud. I love the phone, but it seems like the bold just has speaker problems. I also work for a big company and have talked to serveral coworkers with a bold and they all agree with the low speaker volume.
Is there anything i can do? - 06-18-2009, 03:45 PM #2
Upgrade your OS. My bold is loud as all sh!t. Actually its louder than any other Blackberry I've had. And I've had several of each model EXCEPT the Storm and new flip. In fact my complaint is that it's TOO loud. I'm going to post a thread about this soon. I used to be able to have very very quiet ringers/im notifications for work on all my other Blackberrys including the 8700 and 8800. Those same sounds on the Bold are slightly louder--too loud for a quiet office environment. So now I use my Bold on "quiet" mode. (aka silent)

Mine's very loud, both ringer and speakerphone.
Have both of you adjusted the volume in Profiles?Tronyx's Important & Popular Blackberry Links (This one is worth the visit, Kids)
Real post....
ive had the phone for 11 days now, upgraded os to .247, unbranded using a different vsm, and, worst of all, i have broken the warranty seal because i blacked the bold out... - 06-18-2009, 04:55 PM

yes i went into the phone profiles and changed it all to "high". It is just so terribly low.
I will try upgrading the OS, i thought i had the latest one though since i just got it about 2 months ago, but i will check for an update, thanks! - 06-19-2009, 11:31 AM

upgraded the OS to 4.6.0.167 and still the same issue.

.167 is not an upgrade. Try .266 or even .247 or better yet the new .282

I have the .167 OS and my ringer and speakerphone are loud. if you can't fix the issue by upgrading the hardware, you may want to exchange the phone for a new one (assuming you bought it new).

i did buy it new. I upgraded to .266 and still the same issue. This is the 5th phone we've seen in the past 2 weeks with the issue. Thinking something is up with the Bold speaker. All the devices were about 1-2 months old also. Pretty Frustrating.

Insurance?
- 06-26-2009, 02:03 PM #16
Called the store where I purchased it and told them the problem. Since the phone is still under warranty, they told me to go to the local ATT warranty center (luckily its close by) to exchange my phone. No insurance needed.
I'm going after work. Hopefully the exchange is problem free as they say... - 06-29-2009, 06:42 AM #17
Bold too quiet?
I found the solution!
I too suddenly found my Bold was too quiet although it was very loud when I first acquired it.
I tried every setting and suggestion to no avail.
The problem is that the back cover becomes locked on too tightly and actually covers the speakers! If you gently prise the cover away slightly with your fingernail whilst playing some music, you will see what I mean!
To prevent it happening again, I slipped a small piece of folded paper in between the cover and the phone to 'space' off the back cover a little.Last edited by Stupot; 06-29-2009 at 06:56 AM.

search the forums again. all u have to do is stick a piece of paper between the case and the battery cover just above the light for the camera. or you can turn it in for a new one. the problem is internal. there arnt any settings we are missing.

I had same issue.

I bought my phone on ebay so I didn't think AT&T would do anything about it so I tried all the different remedies; squeezing by the camera, prying the pins up, and even the little piece of paper. After about three or four weeks of the phone volume still not working I got fed up
and called AT&T anyway - what's the worst they would do, tell me tough luck?!?
Anyway, the phone was still under factory warranty and to my amazement they replaced it for free!!
I would at least give that a try.
