bold massively overheating during charging

ok, i was feeling lazy last night, so i plugged my phone into the charger last night as normal, but with the headphones still attached....i got a message in the middle of the night, and when i picked my phone up, it was noticeably much hotter than you'd normally expect a phone to be - not melting, but enough for me to unplug it and take the battery cover off. the entire phone would have made a good hand warmer. phone works fine, charged it this morning no problem. anyone else had this? i'm running .167...
