You want to bring the phone back to as original as RIM intended. Do not mess with something that is tried-and-true (even on best well-intentioned advise of others.)
1) Buy a new RIM battery, NOT a discount battery.
2) Backup data, security wipe, re-install an OFFICIAL RIM OS, not a hybrid, restore backup.
3) Only install essential apps and avoid those that do streaming like radios and video players.
4) Make sure you fully "EXIT" all apps not being used.
That being said
... there is a reason why RIM has not made 'hybrids'

Well, my friend you have tried and tested all the steps that comes to my mind. How about giving the board a throughout cleaning with isopropyl alcohol? Could be a contact issue somewhere.

Most likely there's something running in the background that you don't know about. Either that or your phone is made in Mexico, but if that were the case, you'd have had that problem long ago already. My Made-in-Mexico Bold 9000 would get so hot I'd burn my skin while in my pocket, so I exchanged it - for another Mexican Bold that started doing the same thing. Now I'm on my Hungarian Bold 9000, which has been serving me well for nearly three years.
I do get that heating problem sometimes, though, and it is just about always caused by Google Maps not shutting down fully and running in the background. I found that rather than doing a proper reset, by which I mean going into shutdown and then replacing the battery, the best is to just take the battery out while the phone is running. I can hear some people cringe at that, but it seems that when you do a proper shutdown before taking out the battery, the phone remembers what was running and starts/resumes the activity when you restart the unit. When you just yank the battery out, it returns to a previous state that did not have that activity in the background.
Of course this is just based on my own experience, and if you've reinstalled your OS and done all those other much more difficult things, then maybe your phone is in real need of an upgrade. And if you're like me, and on AT&T, your in SH&%, because the Bold 9900 is still not here...

| | BB Bold 9000
This is the sorriest piece of junk of a phone I have ever used. The camera takes awful pictures, no matter what setting you use or how still you hold the phone. The phone heats up after talking on it for 20 or more minutes. You can't save apps to the SD card, so you are hamstrung by the phone's limited memory for apps (so thank you BB for offering free apps as compensation for your data outage - REAL useful.) The OS is difficult to use - most phones you can play with them for a bit and figure out how to do things. Not so with BB, need to get online and find instructions for the simplest of tasks. The phone has bloatware you can't get rid of. You go into the Service Book to get rid of it and when you have to pop the battery because of a lock-up (a frequent occurrence) it all comes right back. I have had this phone replaced twice, so now I'm on my third one and all these issues were present on all three. This past week, I get a new issue - the battery drains very quickly and the phone heats up even when I am not using it. When the trackball quit working, I took it to an AT&T Service Center. The technician told me that the trackball doesn't just pop out on these like other models. Fortunately it started working again on its own. Try using this phone when you can't scroll down. The technician also told me that this was one of their more stable platforms. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? How does this company remain in business? I bought a new BB battery and I still have the same drainage and heating issues. This phone is about to test theories as to what happens in a physics sense when a small object hits an immobile object such as a brick wall when hurled at a high velocity. Now I know why they call this site "Crack"berry. You have to be smoking crack to think these phones are good. |

I am open to any advice for fixing this thing. I have dealt with it for almost two years with no luck. If you can't give advice on how to fix the issues (which is probably the likely case) then you can be quiet. You must work for Crapberry, Joe4Pal. Since you or anyone else won't (can't) help, then yes, I will be happy to invest in a phone that works. I would love to have a phone that I can more than just a few apps on. I would love one that takes decent pictures. I would love one that doesn't have an OS that is just plain difficult to use. I would love to be able to permanently get rid of bloatware apps that I don't use. Instead, I bought a Crapberry. I won't make the same mistake twice, I assure you. Nice cop out, Joe. | The 9000 is an old device introduced in May 2008. It is no longer being sold. The limitations are due to the fact that it is almost 3 1/2 years old. Newer BlackBerry devices have much more capability than the ancient 9000.
For what it's worth, I used a 9000 in the past.

The 9000 is one of the most beloved BlackBerries ever made. For it's day, it was outstanding in all regards. Please, if you want assistance with it, start a new thread instead of hijacking this one, and ask for it.
