Default Blackberry Trackball scrolling in wrong direction

My friend gave me his blackberry 9000 because it wasn't scrolling.

I took apart the phone and cleaned the rollers on the trackball.
Now it scrolls fine but its scrolling in the opposite direction.

When it was broken it was also scrolling in the wrong direction too.

Is this a software problem or hardware? I don't know what went wrong

When I had this issue on my 9810, it was hardware. Mine had 2 sides with white prongs which fit into the grooves to right and left. Just take it apart again and switch it and see if that fixes it.

Is it only doing it one way (up and down only) or all ways (left and right as well).

Sounds like you inadvertently reversed the polarity of the rollers when you reassembled the rollers. If you put the rollers themselves in backwards, this could cause the issue you are describing. If the magnet heads were replaced facing previously pointing the wrong direction, and you put it back as it was assembled wrong, the sensors would read the directions as reversed.

    That's about right
This happens before on my 8830. Don't panic, just take the track ball apart and put the rollers to the oposite posistion as you see them. If you can't put it back together just get a new one and pop it back in.
Edit : looking at your user name, I guess your from Viet Nam. A track ball there are cheap, about 100.000 đ a pice
