following what it said here, del .cod file. Then flash. Then communitcation problem then die!
Maybe because I forgot to del the vendor file. This happen before with my 8100. Downloading Rogers ROM. Hope it will fixed it. That fix my 8100. Or I will cry! My Bold. My Money. Only 3 days.......

now cleaning out all OS install in my computer. Will restart the computer and install the Rogers ROM
Now it looks like I wipe the phone Clean, and forget to delet vendor file. So the loader is okay to let me start the installation. Then later on at the reboot process, the phone lock up. (not sure)
It happened with my 81100 once.
Wish me luck, so I can get the Bold back on working.

You needed to put the battery straight back in.

Apologies if this is not what you meant but I find your posts difficult to decipher: my problem not yours, no offence meant.

Bold is back on mission again!
Now I learn a something new again.
If you just want to upgrade your OS do not wipe it clean.
If you really want to wipe it clean and do a downgrade. Remember to delet the vendor file before you do the downgrade.
If something wrong happen while you are doing the upgrade. Phone lock up, black screent two short red LED. No worry, just reinstall the OS from the provider which you bough the phone with.

On my way to upgrade my Bold again. Ha ha! Never give up.

Just a bit of an update as I'm interested in seeing how others have got their Bolds running...

myBoxTone Insight, Gmail, Opera Mini, Viigo and Google Maps installed... leaving currently 55mb free.

Aside from rendering it damn near useless by removing most non-3rd party apps, what has anybody else done to eke out more memory please?

Just interested, and as ever wanting to learn more. TIA.

sort teh files by size. having the biggest ones at the top.
i deleted my files. so im going to do it off the top of my head.
net_rim_bb_medialoader 480x320.cod or something like that. its 6mb big, move it out of the directory, or just delete it. this will remove the sample media.
net_rim_bb_medialoader_sonic_networks_high_2.cod this will remove the stewart copeland sounds . 2+mb.
if u dont use the standard bb sounds, u can remove the other sonic network sounds also. 2+mb.

off the bat, it should free up 10mb if those things bother u. or you are just looking for some extra juice.

run the Desktop manager. go to app loader and hit next and it will remove those files from your bold

After doing this I got the 205 error. Did a battery pull times 2 and everythin was fine. Checked memory, increased to 35.4MB.
What I wanted to know is what did I exactly get rid of, 'cause when I went to my media files I still have the preloaded wallpapers, videos and copeland ringtones?

I had the same problem until I changed the memory cleaning options.

Go to options --> security options ---> memory cleaning. Enable it and set the appropriate options. I set mine to clean after 1 hour idle and upon holstering.

After that I have 16.6MB free space. I've loaded 10 apps.

I agree that it seems strange to have only 16.6MB available when I have 858.0MB free space on the device memory.

If the OS is anything like the Curves you should remove the Russian Language pack from the unit. Do the following:
OPTIONS
ADVANCED OPTIONS
APPLICATIONS
UNDER BLACKBERRY CORE APPLICATIONS THE RUSSIAN WILL APPEAR
ROLE DOWN TO SELECT THE RUSSIAN, WHEN HIGHLIGHTED PRESS MENU KEY THEN SELECT DELETE.

I'm having the same issues. I've tried a number of suggestions on this forum. Some suggestions have helped free up some space. I'm at about 50 MB. This is after a wipe and only installing Google maps and yahoo messenger.
FYI, I talked to a friend of mine who has the 8900 (new curve). He has 100mb running for app memory. WTF!? This is after he installing several apps and a bunch of themes and running for about a month. We need some action RIM! ARRRGGG!! This is my 4th Bold by the way.

First one - memory leaks and issues with email dissappearing. rogers sent me a new phone. I end up finding out this is a problem on all Bolds. The email wasnt a hardware problem.

Second - A horrible sound if you cover the right speaker in speaker mode.... rogers sent me a new phone. Same thing on the new phone. Suddenly it randomly dissapears! WTF

Third phone - Phone randomly restarts itself 3, 4, 5 times a day! Rogers sends me a new phone.

Fourth - Everything seems to be running smoothly except for this memory leak issue. I just want my phone to work perfect *tear*
