Blackberry 9000 trackball
Hi everyone! This is my first post and I am in desperate need of help.
Yesterday, my trackball stop scrolling down but it had no issues scrolling anywhere else. So i decided to take it apart, using many of the different disassembly videos. I found a huge amount of dust in the trackball housing and cleaned it out. I put it all back together.
Now, the problem is that that the trackball does not react. The ball spins smoothly but there is no response on the screen. I can click it but I have to hold down the ball longer than usual for it too work.
I have then noticed that if I press down on the metal housing or around the trackball, but making sure that I do not hit the bb or return button, the trackball works.
There is no way that I will constantly put pressure on the side of the ball for it too work. I'm hoping somewhere inhere has the solution. Please and thank you! - 08-04-2010, 01:43 PM #2

Did you try to clean the trackball before taking the device apart? Sometimes just using a little alcohol (or as I do, eyeglass cleaning solution) and a microfiber cloth and work it a bit. These things can usually be cleaned without taking the device apart and risking it not working at all.

Sounds like the trackball is not positioned correctly. There are 2 nubs on the trackball that need to be seated in the holes on the midplate. Take the metal retainer off and turn the trackball 90 degrees (either way, does not matter). Replace the ratainer and you're good to go.
