BB Bold KEYBOARD LOCK AND UNLOCK

Hi - Seemed easier on older Blackberry to Lock and Unlock Keyboard. I guess holding down "A" can lock the keyboard or set a convenience key - that's ok - But is there anyway to unlock keyboard other than "asterisk and call"? Hard to do one-handed - can't you set a convenience key to unlock keyboard? Has to be an easier way to do so you don't have to look down to find the asterisk and call buttons....

I'm also very interested in finding a way to customize this. As a left hander its basically impossible to do a one hand unlock... I wonder if there is any way to hack this?

When it's unlocked, press and hold the "mute" button on the top of the Bold. It will lock the keys and put the phone in standby, easily done one- handed, and isn't difficult for left handers. Tap the same button to unlock it. Is this what you're looking for?

Hold the "Mute" key which is located at the top left side of the device.

Quite the opposite. Personally I'd rather just hit the mute button in the top left than the call and *

You know, you don't have to press * and call at the same time. Just press them in sequence. Pretty easy one handed. Michael

I don't think there would be a difference if the keyboard was locked or not.

I'm not sure it would do anything, but maybe lose more battery life as you'd have to type in the the password or the unlock sequence rather than just hitting the standby.

how the **** do you guys find it hard to push two buttons with your left thumb.. you dont need to push them at the same time.. just one after each other!

If you set a password, you can press the "a" to lock and whatever super easy password you choose to unlock. I have a simple password that only uses keys on the right hand side of the keyboard - fast and easy.

I just turned the default camera button to the lock ... makes my life easier

i use the mute / standby key @ the top and it doesn't use anymore battery life then locking the keys .
RIM did it that way because it is now even faster to do everything , thats another reason why they call the bold the fastest BB , they didn't just mean the processor but all around

i just went into the options on the phone

then scrolled to screen/keyboard or w/e

then i changed the left-side button to lock my keyboard
all i do is hit that button and im good to go, locks it right up until i unlock it with the *+call

if you turn off "call from home screen", tap letter 'K' will lock the phone without changing any key assignment.

now if someone found out a *real* quicker way to "unlock"....

Does anyone know how to change the background picture when the screen is locked? I have a picture set as my wallpaper, but when I lock it, it is the theme picture of the custom theme that I installed.

Pretty sure this can only be done if your theme is set for it.

I just use an easy password like KareBare. I found it harder to use the send * as well. Plus it's good because if you ever lose your phone and someone doesn't figure out your password then it'll wipe your handheld for you at how many wrong entries you set it at.

my bold takes about 5 seconds to lock the keyboard. is this normal? i can hold the key down for about 2 sec and let go but the locked icon won't appear till 5 sec.

Not normal... are you using a custom theme?

a theme i downloaded from crackberry to my desktop. moved it to my pics folder on my BB and set it as the background. any tips on what to do or should i just live with it?

i just tried with one of the default themes. did the same thing. also, why did all my folders switch order. i had to reset all of them.

You can save yourself a lot of trouble by simply turning your BB off ... then turning it back on again. I discovered this by chance. People here seem to making the process much more complicated than it needs to be. Try turning your phone off and back on again. It will then be unlocked. Worked fine for me.
