upgrade the OS to a newer version asap and put it on the charger while it's restarting

Yep I have the same issue with my 9000 I would get the newest OS which is the one in the top of this forum from t-mobile Germany. It still does it but not as bad.

Upgraded, still goes down. But only by 30% this time. I still can't reboot and have the charger plugged in (forever red LED light) , I have to unplug then reboot and wait until the light turns off before plugging in the cable.

Might try Delfteo's method if I don't get a working answer.

PS: Sometimes the Crackberry app wont work and my phone freezes and I have to use the end call button to exit

Make a backup from your personal things, do a good device wipe and load the DelftEo os, really it works great.
Make sure you have no other os installed in your pc then DelftEo when you upgrade.
If you read the findings and fixes from other cb users, you read about great batt live and non problems.

    Enjoy DelftEo

I might do that tomorrow! Hope for the best. Am I able to do it all (ignoring the backups etc) without desktop manager?

Perhaps it is time to replace the battery because if the fully charged and booted drops below half capacity may just suggest and its efficiency is low

I had similar situations, and after replacing the batteries ran out at a 10% exclusion and white screens, not to mention that when I reboot vanishes only 5-6% max
