9000 vs 9700 Really Worth the Upgrade?
Other than the 3.2 Megapixel camera and the trackpad what exactly are the advantages of the 9700 because the original bold has a larger screen a bigger leather battery cover casue the new one is only partially leather.
So please explain to me a good reaosn why it's worth upgrading because obviously you can install the 5.0 software on the 9000 aswell + 9000 has a nicer keyboard - 11-05-2009, 10:32 AM #2
9700 also has twice the memory but i love my 9000 too much to part with it.

Personally I have no reason to upgrade to the Bold 9700. It is better in some ways, but not nearly enough for me to justify buying a new blackberry. If I had a Curve that would be another story.

I'm on the fence about upgrading. Since yesterday I been a year with my Bold and I have reached the time limit I'm with a phone. Then again the 9700 isn't much of an upgrade and there are no substantial benefits to going to thee 9700. I have friends with other blackberies like the Curve, Storm , Tour and the Bold runs circles around them as far as functionality and compatibility with third party apps. Even though I am now eligible to upgrade I'm not sure if I want to.

I love my Bold but there are a couple of weak points that the Bold 9700 addresses that are sufficiently annoying to me that I will probably switch. The first is the trackball and the second is the limited application memory. The trackball is a regular annoyance and I spend way too much time managing available memory.

one of my complaints about the 9000 was the camera being recessed in the back, always ended up with a dust buildup on the lens that could only be cleaned by removing the battery cover.
Personally, I would have liked to have seen a bigger difference, but I'm making the jump primarily because i've had my bold for 14months now, and i'm bored with, need a new toy. There's nothing else out there that i'd prefer over the blackberry, and this will hold me over till the release of the rumored touchscreen BB with full sliding qwerty keyboard :-) - 11-05-2009, 02:40 PM #10
Too small. I will wait until the next Bold is released.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the 9700 screen actually runs at a higher resolution than the 9000. Or did u mean that the screen size is physically bigger on the 9000?
Currently with a pearl 8100, the upgrade is worth it for me. However, I have been debating whether I should purchase a slightly used 9000 for now and wait for the next iphone.

As mentioned earlier it's very personal. I love the size of the keyboard and weight of my 9000. I won't be upgrading.

I agree with the 9700 being too small. There's nothing "bold" about a smaller device.

Dude, if you don't have anything to contribute that's constructive- other than to flame somebody for there opinion than go troll somewhere else.
I had both phones and decided to sell the 9700 for a few different reasons..............
Contrary to what everyone may think the build (IMHO) is not as good as the 9000, the biezel is squeeky nesar the end key bad
Keyboard is not only smaller but also doesnt have the same solid feel as the 9000
while the screen may have a slightly higher resolution, i much prefer the larger and wider screen of the 9000
THE 9700 IS A SCRATCH MAGNET!!! that area above the screen where it curves is brutal for getting micro scratches quick, and if you thought the silver biezel on the 9000 was bad.........nice shiny chrome biezel, just like the iphones.......thats one of the biggest gripes of the iphones hardware.
No thank you........ill live with bold and wait for the magnum or dakota thank you very much - 11-06-2009, 12:19 AM #19
I too think I am going to wait. There isnt enough changes for me to make the move.

Just pimped mine
I just pimped my Bold with new stuff from sw-box.com, so there absolutely no chance that I will be switching. Mine is now completely white and it is just like having a brand new phone...... plus the benefits of of additional application memory is not important enough to warrant a switch......

Holding on to my 9000, with the 9700 being the same size as the 8900 it just feels smaller then it should be. Holding out for the Dakota, initial specs have it at the same size as the 9000 with touch screen and a qwerty keypad.
