    Depends what apps you're running.

That's really low. How many apps do you have?

After I pull I generally get 47 to 49 as my apps go up and down.

That seems really, really low after a pull regardless of how many apps since not many are running right at startup

I'm on 247 with about 15 apps and I stay at 46, and after a pull I go to 52.

That's a bit like asking "I just got paid a few days ago. Is it normal that I only have $3 in my account?" Nobody here is qualified to answer the question without knowing what you've been doing with your money.

The Bold starts with 128 MB system memory, and that's where the OS is stored, it's where all your applications are, it's where your emails and SMS messages wind up, it's where the cached files for your browser and contacts app are stored, it's where the Speed Racer trailer and music video that come with the phone are stored, it might be where your camera is storing pictures and videos you take, and yes, it's where your apps that were running swap data that needs to be stored temporarily to make them run. The battery pulls only help with the last of those things.

Do you have an SD card or take advantage of the 1 GB media storage for any media files you keep around? Have you gotten rid of media, apps, foreign language support, ringtones, etc. that came on the phone but you don't need? How often do you clear your cache in your browser and run the memory cleaner? What apps are you running? Are they ones that preload data or make info available offline? How long do you have the messages app set to keep emails and texts? Do you let the camera or voice recorder store files in the system memory? The battery pull you did made sure your 3rd party apps aren't actively consuming your free memory but they are still installed... are they big ones, and are there a lot of them on there?

Answer all those questions and we'll tell you whether you're supposed to have 18.2 MB free. I'd look for big media files and check the quantity and size of 3rd party programs first, then check all apps to make sure none of them are storing extra crap all over your phone, clear your cache, run memory cleaner, THEN do a battery pull and check your free memory. If it's still too low and you just can't part with any of your apps, you can read about removing unecessary stuff from the device software. If you do all that and the numbers still low, THAT'S when it's time to suspect that something's not right.

Sorry, I would have responded to this as well, but that long post took me a while to write from the Bold, and you posted this while I was writing it:

That mentality is why you only have 18.2 MB.

Your phone does not contain a hard drive. It's not a 16 GB iPhone. 128 MB is all you get for the whole system. It's plenty if you know how to use it.

You said you're "running" a theme, but how many that you've downloaded are still on your phone? They ALL count against your 128 MB, not just the one you're currently using. To answer your question about App World, you CAN download as many apps from there as you want, just don't keep them all on your phone at the same time. Only store th ones you use. The rest of them can live happily on App World, ready to be downloaded whenever you want. A computer with 4 GB of RAM typically performs quite well... but if it didn't have a hard drive, you wouldn't get on-line looking for programs to put in that 4 GB and download "as many as you want." You'd compare them against each other and come up with a combination that works best for you, while eliminating what you don't need.

And the types of apps you download is far more important than the number of them. Are they games with lots of intensive graphics? Media apps that store stuff and have rich, complicated GUIs? I have about 15 small apps that take up about the same combined amount of space that Slacker takes on my phone. Do all of your contacts have pictures associated with them? How about instant messengers? Lots of buddy icons?

Press Alt + Escape to see the running apps.. If there any apps other than Home/Browser/Phone/Messages/BB Messenger, close them by choosing the "close" option from the menu.

Also, remove any unwanted apps, themes, languages, sample videos and music, to free up some memory ...
