Default problems using crackmem

Hi!

I almost got to the end now.

I have my 8900 with .250 OS just installed. My crackmem recognizes de OS and DM (4.7) recognized and syncs ok the Curve.

I select modules that should not be installed and click DM but no update is started. I got my internet connection off so no update is done.

What am I doing wrong?

Thx....

I have to same problem. I went to the Loader file on my C drive and did not see a "removedfiles" folder". It appears that the files are not being removed evnethough Crackmem tells me that it was done.Any suggestions?

I’m seeing a similar issue too with some files not being removed.

I have a Storm 9530.

Crackmen worked great with the leaked version .148. But when I tried it with the official release (.148) from Verizon it’s not removing any of the files in the java folder. It is removing the vendor.xml file though from the AppLoader folder. I see the removedfiles folder, and all the files are in there from what I can tell, but it’s just not removing (deleting) the files from the Java folder like it did before. Am I missing something?

I recall seeing that issue before. I thought Pete had fixed it. I think what is happening is that CrackMem is not removing the files from the java folder because it is seeing them in the Removed Files folder already. Delete the Removed Files folder. If I'm right, that will solve the problem. CrackMem will create a new Removed Files folder and move the files correctly.

I've followed all of the steps as laid out in the first post on how to upgrade using Crackmem. After hitting execute and then clicking the DM button DM loads and connects to my device, but then does nothing else. Any ideas? I've looked for the RemovedFiles folder people are talking about and don't see that anywhere. I'm stumped. Thanks in advance.

The Help file in CrackMem is exceptionally well written and informative. Check the section titled UPGRADING YOUR OS USING CRACKMEM for a suggested solution to this problem.

Jeff,

When I open up the advanced options under device application selection all there is is the applications that I have chose to keep on my phone. I am using DM 4.6, is that a problem? I have tried disconnecting from the internet as well with no luck.

DM 4.6 is the recommended version of Desktop Manager. DM 4.7 requires the internet disconnect work-around, DM 4.6 does not. Are you sure you have the OS that you are trying to install, installed on your PC? Does CrackMem confirm that it is seeing the OS? Did you follow the instructions in the reference I gave you above?

Crackmem definitely recognizes that the OS I am trying to install is there. I have clicked the confirm OS selection followed by the removal of all modules, including the vendor file. Click the execute button followed by the DM button and nothing happens. I have followed everything to a T.

*Edit - Turns out that i had to manually go in and delete the vendor file from the AppLoader folder.

Pete's Explanation of the CrackMem Bug, from a post on 1/27/2009 ...
Quote:
Try deleting the RemovedFiles folder from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion. There is a known bug in all versions of CrackMem (that will shortly get fixed) which prevents files being deleted from the OS Java folder if and only if there is an existing same filename already in the RemovedFile+OSname folder. This happens when you try to upgrade to the same OS twice and have reinstalled the OS on your PC thus creating an available 2nd copy of the file.

I just never thought of this when we wrote the program.
Sorry, I was too sleepy at 2:00am to remember this. I'm repeating it here, just to make it easier for the next guy to find.

I will also add that if you are dual booting xp and vista you have to delete the removedfiles folder on both partitions of the drive or it will not remove the files from the java folder.

I took a look at the change log in the first post and it appears CrackMem has not been updated since the 8900 was released. I know Pete had to make some mods to accomodate the Bold. It may be some file names changed in the 8900 as well. You can use CrackUtil to remove files manually.
