Default Blackberry Protect - still lost

Alright, at risk of sounding like a total . I still can't figure it out.

Just this week I lost my phone, luckily, it survived a night out in the snow in -40 and was found and returned to me. I have it locked and have a message displaying that there will be a reward if it is returned to me.

I have since attempted to download BlackBerry protect and keep getting the message that "BlackBerry Protect has been disable because device memory encryption is enabled. To enable BlackBerry Protect, turn off device memory encryption in the device security options".

I have tried looking for that in the settings, but cannot figure it out. I have tried searching the web and these forums and was suddenly lost in posts of people that have their BBs figured out way better than me and are using language that I need to google in order to stand of chance of keeping up.

I would like to have the option of locating my phone, backing it up, and being able to do a remote wipe (as I do get work emails on my phone and would like that additional security).

From what I have read, I think my problem is that either I have a keypad lock, or because my work email is hooked up to my phone, or because I have no idea what I'm doing.

Help?

When u say your work email is hooked up to your phone, do you mean BES?

Blackberry protect wont work if you're on BES.

Unless BES is integrated with Microsoft Outlook, no.

I hooked my work email up myself, as my IT person said she had no understanding of blackberries and our work email.

Try these steps:

1. Disable your password lock
2. Make sure encryption is set to Disabled (options>security>options>encryption>disabled)
3. Do a battery pull
4. Try BBProtect again.

Good Luck.

Password disabled.

When I go into my Options, this is what I get...

Options> Security Options> and then I have General Settings, Application Permissions, Certificate Servers, Certificates, Firewall, Key Stores, Memory Cleaning, Software Tokens, TLS, WTLS.

I do not see anything that says "Encryption" with the ability to disable.

What handset model do you have?
What operating system are you running? (hold Alt + Left Shift + H)
