Hoping this post gets reviewed by somebody at BlackBerry - Maybe C_Bryant can pass on the message?

So, not sure anyone else is experiencing the same thing, but when there is an in-line ad in an article on any news app, the physical keyboard scrolling feature stops working. This gets fairly annoying and hope that there is a fix coming soon. Please address this as I love using the scrolling feature on my Priv!

(See attached pic with in-line ad on BBC News app as an example)

See my reply from earlier this year to a question at https://supportforums.blackberry.com...ht/true/page/2 for an (arguably long and dull) explanation of the behaviour - specifically referencing BaconReader, but the concepts are the same.

The short version - scrolling is achieved in most apps by injecting mouse scrollwheel events, delivered to the view containing the coordinates at the vertical centre of the screen and the horizontal position corresponding to the touch down point on the touch keypad (which matches the screen width.)

In BaconReader (and some other apps with similar feeds) ads are embedded in a box which is less than full width, so you can often work around the problem by scrolling using the edge of the keypad. Unfortunately in the case of the BBC news app, the ad that's consuming the scroll events is full width, so scrolling using the left or right edge of the touch keypad doesn't help.

Ideally the ad's view wouldn't consume the events if there's no scrollable content to the ad - in that case the parent view (containing the article) would get the events and scrolling would still work.

If you have a bluetooth mouse with a scroll wheel, you can actually see a similar problem with the ads on any Android device just using the wheel to scroll - once the ad is under the mouse pointer scrolling will stop. You can move the pointer off the ad to make scrolling work again, unless the ad is tall enough to fill the parent view, in which case you won't be able to scroll past it using the mouse wheel.

As Android expands on to more devices with different form factors including notebooks, we may see more apps improving their handling of external input devices like mice, which should result in better handling of our synthesized mouse events.

    Regards,
    Mark from BlackBerry

Thank you for such a detailed reply. Looking forward to a fix being pushed by Google or a possible workaround by BlackBerry, eventually.
