I see a Blackberry Blend app in the Google playstore. Can anyone say how well it works on a Blackberry that runs Android? I like the KeyOne but I use Blend constantly and don't know if I'm ready to give that up.

That's the client app; you put it on an Android tablet and connect it to a BB10 phone.

Thank you. So that won't really do anything for me if I switch my phone to a BB running Android.

If BB is abandoning Blend, BB10 and other things...what do their remaining staff do all day?

Compared to 2013, about 4/5ths of their staff have been let go, most of the former BB buildings have been sold, and BB is a much, much smaller company today.

They still have the QNX division, the newly-integrated MDM division (formerly BES & Good), WatchDox, BB Radar (the truck/container tracking system), and other software solutions. Granted, none of that stuff is targeted at consumers - it's all stuff that only large companies care about - but there are still plenty of things going on.

What has effectively ended is the smartphone portion of the business - though BB is still maintaining their Android apps and doing their Android OS tweaks for their licensees - but I would imagine that there are less than 100 people left at BB who have anything to do with phones at all (including apps for phones), compared to 7-8000 people who were working on phone-related things in 2013.

When Chen said "I'll stay in hardware if I can make it profitable, and if not, I'll get out of it," he wasn't kidding. BB's smartphone business has generated nothing but losses since 2012, and that isn't sustainable, so the plug was pulled (in a controlled, drawn-out way, but pulled nevertheless).

You can't have idle staff if you have no staff.
