Default Wipe a device

I recently had a user lose their phone, so i sent a wipe form the BES to the phone, but it seems like it never made it there. The user ended up finding their phone and the cellular was enabled and talking as normal.

Our policy (at this time) is as follows:

1. User reports a device missing, we stop mail redirection and send down a new lock password.

2. After 36 hours we wipe the device.

I followed this procedure, but it seems as though the phone just didnt honor the fact that I stopped redirection and enabled a password to lock it...any thoughts?

I would just wipe the device from the off. You can see in the Blackberry manager if the wipe command arrives.

First thing to do is to send the IT policy and see if arrives in BB manager. If it does then issue the wipe command.

If the user finds the device you can just reactivate it over the air.

Some devices display 'accept over the air password reset?' which makes that option useless to protect the device.

How long was the device "lost" for? It seems that it didnot have signal during the time it was "lost". It could have been that the command to wipe expired. Also, I've had hit or miss with the older device OS'.

I send the IT policy daily, and I have the Berrys set to wipe if the IT policy has not been received for 10 days.
