Default Why do interviewers have low respect for BES admin ?

Why do interviewers have low respect for BES admin ?

how do you deal respond to these people at job interview ?

They think BES is just a kid toy that isn't worth the trouble of hiring admin for the job.

Maybe because it's all back-end stuff and people that they usually have working in IT can deal with most problems with the devices.
I'm not a trained BES admin but i have set-up several BES servers through guides i have found and just general tinkering.

But no-one cares about a dedicated position until something goes wrong for them... maybe the BAS service gets stopped for a day or two to convince them.... or lock down their internet/camera on their device.

Also, with apple now saying that they are great for business, people want them more

In addition to RTakacs said very few organizations have the need for a dedicated BES Admin/support person, so the job gets dumped on to the Exchanged/Domino/Groupwise admin. Handheld support gets assigned to the desktop support staff.

Find this as well. Its the exchange admins that are doing the BES work, its easy for the most part so why even consider certification or a dedicated resource. Really depressing actually. Shows that the blackberry is definately experiencing hard times in the corporate environment. I'm a dedicates BES admin with little to do these days. See myself heading back to dedicated microsoft sccm admin very soon.

The other way to look at it is that RIM has made the BES so reliable that the need for a dedicated BB is lessened.

Also true. just makes it very hard for the people that want to be dedicated engineers very difficult. The recent murder of their certification program just helps it all out.

My personal worry is that because BES might be so "easy", that its not given the consideration its worth. Most people see BES as the "Email thing we need". No the cool management suite. I think RIM needs to keep adding features to BES at a rapid pace, and bring the certification program back. Keep it easy for the Exchange admins, but make it so compelling that eventually either in inhouse or outsourced engineer becomes required of you want to go with the super cool features.

I would agree, BES admin is now beginning to look like Edsel Ford. All of a sudden the market for BES has considerably shrunk, it’s that the Androids are somehow getting better and Iphones look bloody cooler. People attempt to save whatever they can on BlackBerries and data plans, BES, and licensing. Alarming situation will arise when the Androids will gain up on the security front. Well, mates it’s time to switch.

We're in a recession, companies are more interested in squeezing the costs out of what they have, not adding new super cool features. If the economy ever turns around we might see an uptick in demand for the "higher end" (as opposed to "Just Email" features of BES, but by then everyone may have moved to "The Cloud" (which is another security disaster waiting to happen).

The recruiters probably don't realize that a senior BES admin probably has allot of experience with ms server, exchange, sql and BES. Alot of environments don't leverage all of BES features so they don't need high end BES admins. My environment is a bit different. We have over 2k users, deploy several s/ware packages, have several complex IT Policies and etc. They see the value in an experienced BES admin.

Is it worth it with all things considered that was said above to take a third party certification test and seek a BES job?I currently do sccm and desktop engineering and it's not my cup of tea.
